I don't want to go as far as saying "he should be fired on the spot", but that really was completely out of line and disrespectful. I trust that Al or the appropriate person will take care of it properly.

This guy definitely isn't Joe. I don't know his name as I didn't ask any of the band members, but yeah..the shirt. For my age group, we can be use to that, but this is a family friendly show. There are kids in the audience and older people who definitely don't approve of seeing that.

Yeah, that one is pretty cool. Nice pics, Tara, although some were kinda dark for my stupid monitor. <_< I really, really would love a new one that doesn't show everything darker than it should be.

It may be partly your monitor, but some of those photos are pretty dark!

Here's my review. Hopefully it makes sense. I'm on four hours of sleep, so my brain is really lagging, but here you go!

--------------------------------

My friends and I got a later started than I had anticipated. We left about 4pm and ended up in Kansas City about 7:20. Took longer than the 3 hours because they wanted to stop for food and when we got to KC, we had to find some form of a parking place. We ended up circling around and parking in a residential neighborhood a block from the venue. I noticed that Al’s evil twin must’ve been playing. The thing said Wi-erd Al Yankovic. *sigh* Actually, it did it without the dash, but I forgot the forum automatically fixes that.

We got to the venue and the person looked at our tickets and said they were at the white folding chairs. Okay. We got inside the seating area and found out that original Memorial Hall seating was now general admission. That deeply worried me since I was supposed to have the equivalent of a 5th row seat from the original venue. Since my friends and I had arrived so late, there was no way we could get anywhere near close for all of us.

Tig told me to just go ahead and find a seat as close as I could by myself. I found a seat about…10th row or so and sat down there. During Fun Zone, my friend, Daph, suddenly found me and grabbed me, pulling me out of the seating area. I was deeply confused. It seemed Tig had complained very much to security about this, she was tired, and grouchy about this. So with permission of someone in charge of seating, moved all of us to 5th row on Jim’s side. I was happy and amazed.

Then the Chicken Dance part of Polkarama started, so my friends and I stood up and did the chicken dance. Tig said that Steve looked at us really weird.

And on went the show. I could actually take pictures this time around, so that was nice. Al said hello to Kansas City…Kansas. I think Al got confused again or else no one told him it was moved to the Missouri side of Kansas City.

We got a lot of streamers during Canadian Idiot, not as much as the center section, but we did get quite a lot. It was awesome.

The show pretty much went on like normal. Daph was sitting next to me and was pretty sure I was gonna bounce out of my seat at some point. I was quite happy and surprised to see that WDTAHTM was being played instead of Bob. It always fun to watch Jim’s expressions and Ruben rocking out at the keyboards.

We had Pentiums, which was pretty normal. Though, there were quite a few points because there were these benches/steps from the stage and Al would frequently go down on them to get even closer to the people in front row. He had a lot of fun with that.

Next was Your Pitiful, which continued like normal. I was quite happy to see that accordion shirt back. I like the other one, but it’s the accordion shirt. There were many cheers for just about each shirt that came off.

Then came WBUL, I didn’t get any lines, but Al was singing to everyone around me, which is good. It was so amusing to see how the other women reacted to Al.

Then the medley came, which continued like normal. This was pretty much a normal show, nothing horribly went wrong. I did notice during OTAS, there was the person that replaced Joe. I don’t know his name as I didn’t ask Rubén or Bermuda after the show. He has a lot of tattoos.

During ISY, money actually came quite down during it! That was very nice. I love this song live. I always imagine Al in the outfit while listening to the cd. My friends and I actually captured some money. I caught a couple in the air. It’s the chance to capture money!

Then came time for TSB. We had a Boba Fett, and one tie pilot. Boba Fett was on the end right behind Jim and the tie pilot was right behind Steve. We had about 10 people and a Darth Vader. Al came out, and had to figure a way to get through two Stormtroopers. He eventually scooted his way through them. They were all grooving during the song. It was great. This Darth Vader was really getting into it. He was doing the robot, the weird motion having your hands go pass the eyes, and hands to knees thing. I can’t remember what half the moves are called, but it was really funny. The short stormtrooper next to Vader kept um…dancing right next to Vader. Like it was gyrating at Vader. It looked really wrong, but really funny. They were really into it. Vader hi-fived a trooper. Also at the end, Al was right next to Vader, singing to him. That was great.

Yoda was great like normal. It was a lot of fun. Al put his microphone to a random woman in front row, but the crowd kept singing. Al went, “Just her!” but the crowd kept singing. Al then went, “Okay, now all of you!” when all of them had already been singing. After all, the crowd wouldn’t let the woman sing by herself. It was funny.

SLN went on like normal and so did AP. W&N was fun again to watch, especially since Steve was just being weird during that song. He kept dancing odd and Daph saw that he accidentally hit himself in the head with his microphone. The cord to his microphone got tangled in his arms and when he crosses his arms, it accidentally hit him in the head. Ouch! At some point during the show, he would bat at his microphone, watch is spin around on the stand, then bat it back to the right position.

Fat went on like normal, except there was no Joe, which I was expecting. We have our new person who replaced Joe. He has a lot of tattoos. I wish I knew his name. He wears even less clothes for the ho part. That was surprising.

Al picks up some duct taped that was on the stage that said, “Missouri.” Al looked at it and said that no one tells him anything and that he goes off his myspace. We got cell phones song again, which is nice. Gotta wave those cell phones in the air! Woo!

Then came Albuquerque, which is great. During one part of it, Al decided to stare at a random person, then started a line, and stopped and resumed his staring with this random person. We got the Halle Berry line of donuts again. Jim again proved awful at his solo, but it was so funny because he started going one note at a time. We got lots of confetti flying at the end. Woo!

That was the end of the show. My friends and I wandered over to the gated tour bus area. There was about 30 people and the security guard told us Al already left. Um…the show just got over 5 minutes ago and there was no way possible he actually got done that fast, especially with the backstage people.

We waited around as some people left our area, we saw Jim walk around in the gated area and at about 10:50, Rubén came over and said, “Hello, hardcore people!” He started talking and chatting with us, signing autographs and posing for pictures. He was being such a goofball. Someone else asked him about Ben Folds and Rubén started talking about Summerfest. He said that seemed like a nightmare with what happened. I said I was at that show. He was like, “Oh, you were? So you know what I’m talking about.” He said they were all prepared for Ben, but when Ben came over to take over the keyboard, Rubén gave him his ear monitors. Ben tried to put them in, but they fell out quite quickly.

He said when Ben really went nuts on the solo, he kept hitting random button on the keyboard, producing strange beats, one was especially a drum kind beat from the keyboard and it apparently was driving Bermuda nuts. The rest of band hearing this was going, “Ahhhh! Make it stop!” Especially Bermuda apparently as about this point Bermuda wandered out and Rubén said he talking about the Ben Folds thing at Summerfest. Bermuda made an aggravated noise and said that was a nightmare.

Bermuda came and chatted with us for a while too. I asked Bermuda if he gotten the brownies from the Des Moines show. He looked at me and said, “That was you?” I nodded and he thanked me for them a lot. He thanked me about three or four times during the conversation. He told me they were delicious and he appreciated them. He ate just about all of them. He asked how I knew that he adores brownies. I told him I never knew that, I just decided to make brownies.

They both signed stuff for my friends and I and we got a group picture with them. Bermuda again thanked me for the brownies. As they were about to leave, I asked Bermuda to give Steve his cookies since Steve was so nice in Des Moines. He said he would.

After they had left, my friends and I decided to head on home as it was 11:30 and we had three hours to drive back home. First, we discovered that the ramp that leads from 169 to I-29 was um…closed. We had a follow a not-so-clear detour. After finally getting on I-29 somehow, we found an exit to fill up and stumbled upon a gas spill at the gas station, so the car smelled like gas. As we left the gas station, the cops pulled us over for putting on the turn signal a tad too late for their liking, so they left us with a warning ticket, which means nothing as even the cop said. As we were getting closer to home, we encountered a thunderstorm, so we had to slow down because of the pouring rain and lightning all around. We finally ended up getting home around 3am. I immediately went to bed.

There seems to be a growing trend of Al connecting with individual audience members. I hope it continues and increases. In this case, I love being singled out.

Thanks for the review, CB. Glad you and your friends had a good time, and cool about getting the 5th row after all. I agree with El. I love these stories about Al picking out just one person to sing during Yoda, or to stare at at any given moment. hehe! I think it would be fun if he did that to me.
