And Al might not have been that famous at the time. If it was the early 1980s, he probably only released one or two albums by the time of the contest.

Well, no, it wasn't, because both songs are about a '64 Plymouth Belvedere, and the prize car from that contest was a 1982 Toyota Corolla. But, I'm glad you brought it up, so people could see the picture, and read about it. I thought Happy Steve had a pic of that car on the yankovic.org site at one time.

on Belvedere Cruising, Al sings "...Going Belvedere cruising today. I can take you anywhere on my 1964 Belvedere! Going Belvedere cruising today!"

and on Stop Draggin' My Car Around Al sings "...N[ ]ow I'm at home, I'm watching Gilligan's Island, guess it's time to trade my old car in. For twenty dollars and my '64 Plymouth, maybe I can get a second-hand Schwinn."

I think he's inadvertently mentioning his parents' 1964 Plymouth Belvedere being towed away on Stop Draggin' My Car Around

Tell me what you think.

I always thought that was assumed to be the case. Which is why a 1964 Plymouth Belvedere is my dream car. (see http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... =011#v4-38)

(Isn't it enormous? And can't you just imagine teen-Al sliding his scrawny butt behind the wheel of that tank?)

The question I have about his folks' Belvedere is what color it was. In "BC," he starts by calling it his "big green station wagon" and ends with "in my big black Plymouth Belvedere tonight!" I just always assume it was so dark green it looked nearly black. One thing we do know..."WITH RED UPHOLSTERY!!"

Are you serious? He says you won't find me braggin' bout my big green station wagon. In other words he does not have a big green station wagon. The Belvedere is black.

I did notice the connection about the car in Belvedere Cruising and Dead Car Battery Blues, but not Stop Dragging My Car Around.

Is it mentioned in any others?

Yes, the Belvedere is black and it has red upholstery.
