I'm kinda surprised it hasn't gone gold yet. It just seems like it should have by now especially with how popular W&N got.

Not to be pessimistic, but if this song album/song has been so popular and the album STILL hasn't gone gold, it kinda makes me wonder if Al will ever earn another gold album...

Well, I'm not gonna be a pessimist. I think this has a good chance of going gold. It may get a resurgence of popularity once the tour hits. Think positive.

I honestly don't know how much a tour really boosts album sales though. I would think most of the people going to the tour already own the album. I could be wrong though. I still think SOL can go gold. It might take a while, but I definitely think it will happen.

Well, I think boosting album sales is one reason for a tour. It is in support of the album. Maybe some people wanted to wait, or see Al perform the songs live? I dunno, but I have a good feeling about SOL.

Well, I doubt people would hold out on buying a 15 dollar CD because they want to see a 30 dollar (or more) concert first. That seems illogical. Not saying it couldn't be true in some cases, though.
But I do know that a lot of people who go to Al concerts aren't particularilly fans, but because of the low cost of tickets, just go because they want to have a good night out and they heard about him coming to town. Those people could very well go and buy the album afterwards, sure.
But don't most artists make more money from touring than from their record sales anyway?

You make a good point, Jeremy. I suppose it doesn't make sense for people to see Al for twice what the cd costs, and then turn around and buy it. But maybe a few people will, anyway. There's still the possibility of another video entering the Top 20 Countdown. I know it's more logical to assume that whoever was planning on buying the cd has already done so, but maybe seeing yet another video on VH-1 will help? I dunno. I just don't wanna count SOL out as far as going gold.

There needed (needs) to be a second single. One song is not going to make people go out and buy the cd, especially when you can just download "W&N" for 99 cents. Even if 10 downloads of "W&N" equal one album sale, that's still a lot of lost sales. Even though Al has had a great career, this album holds the trend of lots of one hit wonder bands.

Actually, the way the music world works these days, SOL's sales are even better than what I thought they'd be...especially considering the album's been hanging out in the 80s for the better part of two months
And wasn't it TWS that pushed RWS platinum?

Well, IIRC, it took two years for RWS to go Platinum, so it seems as if touring throughout 2000 helped a great deal.
