Re: People who've said "no" to Al
Here's a question for everybody...if an artist turns down Al, does that in any way affect your thoughts on said artist? Obviously that has a negative connotation to it ("Where's their sense of humor?") but it could also be seen in a respectable light (e.g. one could argue that Paul McCartney stuck to his vegetarian guns and that's commendable).
I was about to say it doesn't really bother me, but in fairness, it is a large part of why I dislike Prince (though hardly the only reason). Not that he's obligated to say yes to Al's parody requests but I would definitely be interested in hearing directly from Prince why he's so opposed to the idea. But to be honest, I don't think that's nearly as bad as something like Eminem, where he gives the go-ahead but then provides the condition of no video. IMO it's better to just flat-out deny permission than to tell Al how to do his job.

Al still snuck us a Prince almost-parody/original with "Traffic Jam" but I forgot the name the Prince song
...our neighbors septic tank was the closest thing we had..

If an artist says no to Al it affects how i think of them in a little bit. I dont think i have ever heard a Prince song but given the history with Al i dont really want to and he seems quite odd anyway. With Ememim I love some of his music but i stopped listening to him for a while after he wouldnt let the video be made. James Blunt, I have only heard the one song of his and I didnt care much about it and I havent heard anything from him since. With LAdy Gaga, when i thought she turned down Al I said I wouldnt listen to her but she is just so intresting to me and i love her music so i doubt that would have lasted.

For me, it depends on why they turn him down. For example, I completely understand why Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson said no, and am fine with them for that. But Eminem, Prince, Atlantic Records, and so forth I've lost respect for. (Granted, I didn't really respect some of them to begin with...)

Exactly, someone younger than Al should be thrilled he's even considering them for the most part. Most of them are just wankers.
What a racket they're makin', Jack, they keep me up at night playin' their electric guitars!!

Prince is extremely overprotective of his music and image. I thought he'd have lightened up by now after all the controversy, but according to They Might Be Jon, that's not the case. As long as he's making money, apparently, he doesn't care what people think of him.anthontherun wrote:Not that he's obligated to say yes to Al's parody requests but I would definitely be interested in hearing directly from Prince why he's so opposed to the idea.

Al ripped on him so hard throughout the years on AL-TV, it was awesome.

If Gaga had actually said no, my opinion of her would have done a complete 180.
