The show was great-very funny! I wish Al had been able to riff on more stuff. That being said, the three Rifftrax guys made up for it with their choices for shorts and their own funny stuff. It was definitely worth the money and if they have this sort of thing again Al or no Al I would seriously consider going. I was also surprised to hear Al music. We were walking in when Hardware Store was ending. I like they had their own pre-show things instead of the boring stuff theatres usually show.

I wound up going tonight after all. The spirit was willing, but the travel-time estimation skills were weak. I left at the normal time for church, but traffic was awful. 20 minutes later I wasn't out of LB yet and I knew I'd miss a third to a half of the service, so I just said, "Oh well," and went to the theater instead.

Very funny; the preshow stuff kept catching peoples' funny bones. I too wish Al had had a bigger part in the proceedings (is there some kind of a competition running among his pals to see who can get him to devote the largest number of hours out of his day for the fewest minutes of screen/stage time?) but I have no doubt that Al himself wrote the riffing he did.
Spoiler:
His remarks on pork put me in mind of his remarks on Thanksgiving turkey-- "Ew! A dead bird!" --and who BUT Al would include a random reference to the Peloponnesian War?
And that was really some creepy footage those guys found, and utterly deserving to be Riffed. If you're reading this and didn't see it tonight, go see it tomorrow if you can.

So, what does it look like in the theatre? Is it a split screen with the short on one side and the riffers on the other?

There were opening shots of the theater audience (I looked for you) , and you saw the riffers (and Al) come onstage and sit onstage. Part of the time you just heard them, but for more than half of it, I'd say, you saw the riffers in three or four stacked windows at the right of the (split) screen. I thought it worked very well.

Sounds cool. Here's a bad quality photo of Al and the Rifftrax guys on the stage:

It was a whole lotta fun being in the audience for this, and bonus--they invited us all to join them at a nearby brewery, so everyone who wanted to got to meet them all, including Al, take photos, etc.

Here's a photo of Dave's (Elvis) cousin Jay with the RIfftrax guys at the meet & greet:

Several people on Twitter expected Al to do a song there, strangely enough. They seemed disappointed that he didn't. I would not expect that from Al knowing what the event was.

To be fair to the people who thought Al would sing -- I did see promos for the event that said he would. I knew they were wrong, but people who don't pay attention just might believe whatever they read in their local paper.

Well, they did play a couple of his songs before the show. BTW, who did that song about falling in love with a shark? Was that the Rifftones?

Al did sing--didn't you hear him? How could you not riff-in-song to that musical pork promotional film?

All of the non-Al songs in the pre-show were by the Rifftones. The "Jaws" song, titled "Love Theme From Jaws," was specifically sung by Kevin...a wonderful send-up of those lame "torch" songs that show up over the end credits of movies (the one that immediately came to mind was the crappy "Jaws" rip-off "Orca," which does feature such a song at the end!).
