Yeah, that was strange....but he sounded like the "Embarassed to admit it" fan. I've known a few of those......
On the other hand, yeah it could've been sarcastic, but if it was, people have said worse (On these very type shows

)
And on another hand, maybe he was describing Dave at concerts

I was also a bit surprised at how neutral VH1 presented the Al segment. They were probably afraid he wouldn't come back for more sequels if they really ripped him apart.
And again, the worst part of that whole thing was Michael Ian Black. Now because you have these late-teen dweebs who watch these shows religiously and think he's really clever and witty (you can tell who they are by their posts on the VH1 message boards), "yankers" is probably going to become slang for Weird Al fans, and no doubt many are going to think it's the actual, correct term instead of just something said off the cuff by a hack comic.

Yeah, what was up with him calling Al fans "yankers"?? Oy, if these young people on the vh1 boards really believe everything that guy says, we're in big trouble.

Oh, yes. That really is a horrible thing he did! I think we should start a letter-writing campaign telling VH1 they should edit that segment. This is just horrible.

I see what everyone means, yet at the same time I have this odd feeling that if it's taken 25 years to come up with yankers, I don't think it's catching on anytime soon

i put in a TiVo thing to record the 1985 episode along with a couple select others. On the TiVo description it said "1985: Phil Collins; Weird Al Yankovic h (no space);..."
HOW DARE THEY SPELL HIS NAME WRONG! lol

One would think with the number of times a month Al does appear on television in various shows and movies that TiVo would have the correct spelling in their database or something.
I guess lately competence is like courtesy. Optimistically you expect it, but you're never exactly surprised when you don't get it...and you can apply that to any situation you'd like.

After doing 2 "I Love the 80's" miniseries on VH-1, Al finally has a segment dedicated to him!! For the episode of 1985 Al is the official topic of discussion. Check it out!
