I don't really have a problem with it either, but I can definitely understand why some might. I mean, it's still not exactly something one would be comfortable saying to, for example, their grandmother.

I thought it sounded rather funny, but Al was wise not to use that in the final cut. Gosh, I just think that the demo version of any song makes the artist sound like a normal person, before it was released in an album.

I just spent an hour looking through Ask Al for this, but here it is:

Geoff Voigt of Ridgecrest, CA asks: Al Waaaaaayyyyy back when in the early 80's, you were part of a contest on MTV in which the 2nd prize was supposedly your car. Was it really your car, or just a car made by MTV to be a Second Place prize? Just Curious.

It really was my beat-up white 1982 Toyota Corolla. I was trying to get rid of it, so I had it painted up like a giant Hawaiian shirt and gave it away on MTV. The woman that won it was less than thrilled (three prizes were being offered, and she was hoping to win the David Bowie package - she was downright disgusted to find out that all she got was my stinking car).

Yeah, that lady was crazy to be so upset about winning it. But, not everyone shares our love of Al, unfortunately.

Thanks for posting that! I read about that contest a while ago and always wondered what that car looked like. Now I can spend my time wondering what ever happened to said car...
