I believe he can hold that note, too, El. Heck, he holds it longer than in the studio recording on the WAY Live dvd, and he really does try to outdo himself in concert, like you said. Impressive! As far as Hardware Store, I think the debate is not whether or not Al used Protools. No doubt he did. It's whether or not he really sang that whole middle section of the song all at once, and then fine-tuned it. I think someone here said he asked Al, and Al said he recorded it in sections, and then pieced it together. That sounds reasonable, but he did a great job of editing. I can't sing along with that, but I can sing along with Jerry Springer. That's about it.

I can follow Jerry Springer pretty well, too.

I can get JS about perfectly every time. I can sing just about every song of Al's, except HS, which I can almost do.

I think the verse in YHFT is pretty hard to sing, if my lungs are at full capacity I can barely pull off the whole verse, but at the end I have no air.

I do alright with Horoscope. I remember being all excited when he got to Aries when I was sitting front row during the PH tour. I said to my friend, "Dawn, that's mine!" *as in my horoscope*
I'm such a dork!

I remember the first time I heard Horoscope when I was young I got extremely excited when Taurus came up.

W&N is very hard to sing, I can barely get the words out, but I am huffing and puffing because there is no time to breathe during the whole song hardly. Not even AL can do it, he only sings the end of each line in concert, some on Jay Leno when he performed. I think it was Jay Leno at least.

I can pretty much sing it, but in no way that constitutes music. Rapping that well would be tough.

White & Nerdy is a challenge to sing (er... rap) but I've been trying to get better at it. Running out of breath isn't an issue for me, it's the timing.
I can also sing Your Horoscope for Today and Jerry Springer. Hardware Store isn't any issue for me at all until the bridge.
Oh and by the way, this is how Al did Hardware Store: He slowed down the instrumental without changing the pitch, and sang the bridge in chunks. After singing it, everything (the instrumental and the vocals) were sped back up (again without any pitch changing.)
