This summer's shows will take me up to 62.

Can't wait till Lucy is old enough to start taking to shows. Both for sharing the experience with her, and for re-accelerating the March to 100.

As I understand it, 24 is just for this year, whereas a total total is 144.

But it's not like you get paid, or excuse yourself from work for a couple of months just for being Al fan, is it?
Right. I will be at 21 of those shows as well. When you get to your mid 40's, and have been working for a long time in the same career, one of the perks is being paid more for your experience than when you are in your 20s. So you then have the time and cash to go do the stuff you couldn't do when you were much younger.

Oh, that's from one of those legends that start with "In civilised West..."

Well, it happens to be true in this case. Al gets to a lot of shows in the general area where we live. Its easy to take a couple days off and stack concerts. If he were touring mostly on the west coast, we would not have those numbers, either. There were plenty of times 20 years ago where I did not have the money or even the time to take off to get to a show that was just an hour away. Its just life. Its taken me 16 years to get to 100 shows. That doesn't mean anyone took months off to do that. It means it happened in small chunks over a long period of time.

Are there people who do take months and tour chase? I can think of 2, and I don't think one person does it anymore because their life situation changed. Do I know how they do it? No idea. I don't really care though, either.

I hit 11, just recently.

8/26/08 - The Evergreen State Fair, Monroe, WA
7/15/10 - Brady Theater, Tulsa, OK
7/16/10 - Verizon Theatre, Grand Prairie, TX
7/17/10 - Verizon Wireless Theatre, Houston, TX
11/5/10 - Fun Fun Fun Fest, Austin, TX
9/22/11 - Verizon Theatre, Grand Prairie, TX
9/24/11 - Moody Theater, Austin, TX
9/25/11 - Belcher Center, Longview, TX
4/30/12 - Kiva Auditorium, Albuquerque, NM
10/19/13 - Brady Theater, Tulsa, OK
5/19/15 - Brady Theater, Tulsa, OK

I'm looking at Houston in August as a possibility and/or something in New York or Chicago at some point this year. I will definitely be at Al's August Grand Prairie show. If I can't manage to save up the money, 12 is my number to end the year with.

I'm in the same boat as Jackie. I'm about to hit 30 next month and that's only because Al does so many shows in the NY/NJ/PA/DE/MD area. I always had the rule of not staying over anywhere after a concert, but I broke that rule twice on a quest to see the first and last shows of the tour. And frankly my number would be higher with these just announced shows, but I gotta save money.

Same here--there are easily at least 3-4 shows on this leg that I would have hit in the past, but current childcare/money situations require that we sit them out for the greater good. Tickets are a lot pricier than they used to be!

Amen to that. I remember my first foray tourchasing in 2000. One show was $36, which was about 10 bucks more than what other places were charging. There was much discussion over the outrageous price of that show (held in a high school gym, I might add--the basketball hoop was above the stage) I long for a $36 show now.

I've been to 12 shows now, and the show at the Greek Theater in September will be my 13th.
My first show was in 1996, and I've seen at least one show on each tour since. Unfortunately, during that time I have been all of the following: a kid, a starving college student, a starving college graduate, and a hard working employee. So I haven't been able to go to dozens of shows during that time. Anticipating some time off next summer, which I'm hopeful will coincide with some concert dates. I hope beyond hope that Al is still touring for a long time so that I may at least reach 27 shows someday!
