Um...how the heck does everyone have time to watch almost 13 hours of DVDs straight?

As for me, I'm still reading all these reviews and patiently waiting til tomorrow when I get the set...

And in defense of Al, it's clear when you watch the show that despite all the ridiculous restrictions placed on him, he really did everything he could possibly do to keep the show the best that it could be. In fact, it appeared during his almost embarassing over-acting and baffonnery that he was actually mocking his own show and their stupid morals in the process.

But still, the parts of the episodes that are independent from the lame storylines were easily the highlights of the shows, specifically the home movies, Fatman cartoons, TV parodies, phony commercials, and a few other random bits such as the "Flintstones" segment.

Al talks about how he did some of this--it even included ripping the moral in half at the beginning of each episode.

The best example I can give is in "Back to School" when CBS said Al needed to explain what a ph.D was cause kids weren't gonna know. So what Al did was, he explained it to Bobby and Bobby immediately responded with "Duh, I'm not a moron."

Ha! That's funny! That's one of the best jokes in the show. And in fact Bobby is probably my favorite character in the show. Yes, I even like him better than Al. His delivery is perfect every time. It seemed like he was expressing Al's actual feelings better than Al's character was, in the way that he was constantly rolling his eyes and just generally annoyed with Al.

Yeah, haha.

And, as a random fact-- I'm rewatching Time Machine right now and have cracked up laughing a handful of times. The show really did have some funny scenes. ^_^

All four of us Canadian Al fans should hold a protest or something... <_<

I'm hoping my dad will be able to find it in Grande Prairie tomorrow. NO ONE in town had it. Grr.

My only problem with this set: The episodes are put on the DVD in the order they were aired, not the order they were produced. So it's really weird for the pilot episode to be the 2nd episode on disc 3. It's really messed up.

 That is a great one! It really must have been frustrating for Al to explain his jokes over and over and over. It's like he was saying in the commentary for "Promises, Promises", he had to say "It's those guys who are always selling things on TV" to explain Ron Popeil and Tony Little. That was the same episode where John Tesh had to be re-identified when he showed up in Al's cave. The CBS exectuives obviously thought the show had to be dumbed down to an almost incredible level. It's pretty clear that if Al had been given free reign to do the show the way he wanted to, it would have been a really funny show.

I would so like to drive to Mexico with Al. But then, anybody who's met him knows he's not always bouncing off the walls.

And besides, it's only about a three hour trip from here. :P
