I'm referring to the daily comedy songs chart, the one iTunes updates once a day to reflect the previous day's sales...

http://www.apple.com/euro/itunes/charts ... songs.html

Today, by the way, it's still #3 in the U.S. and Canada but dropped to #8 in Australia.

How is there so many comedy songs on iTunes that Al can't even get a number one anymore?
How old was that last signature? I mean, really?

Its the damn internet!! Giving no good losers precedence over Al, who has been basically the only big time major record label recording artist that has a fan base bigger than Metallica's, and the internet allows anyone permission to make people forget about Al, now there's too many people who have never heard of Al or will never take the chance to listen to him or give Al the chance to make them laugh cause they all think Al makes kids music....... WHEW.... that was a mouthful for my fingers...

I don't know what's harder to believe....Al's fanbase is bigger than Metallica's, or Metallica's fanbase is the biggest of any other artist during Al's career

And whatever you think of Lonely Island, let's not forget they have two advantages over Al. Andy's on tv every week, and their popularity can at least somewhat be attributed to, say, Justin Timberlake and other artists.

And one more thing: Let's not forget that Al is a chief influence on Lonely Island and they're Al Pals. You may not like them, but Al's a big reason why they are who they are.

I don't know about the YouTube artists, but Lonely Island, Flight Of The Conchords, Tenacious D, MC Lars, Jonathan Coulton....and let's not forget Jace's band and the other FuMP artists, Al made this.

And the song's only been out as an mp3 for a week. Without a video. Relax a little, will ya guys? :P
You have quickly thought up such matchless phrase?

The song isn't #1 because the video isn't out. Not that many people know about it yet. Once that thing hits, (if all goes well) Perform This Way is gonna be a huge internet sensation just like White & Nerdy was.

In all fairness, I really like all those bands. I like TLI, but I don't think they're that good... and they rely too much on body-part jokes to have an longevity.

I agree completely with you on this one.

All these other artists are slowly taking all attention away from Al... thats what cheeses me off the most I guess... but however it turns out, I'll always be a die-hard as well as hopefully everyone on this forum.

Wow, you guys are really whining that Al has competition? I for one am grateful for it. I love comedy music. If I had to wait five years between comedy albums I'd be down right pissed. If Al is being forgotten because of YouTube, you know what? He deserves it. He's at a point where he can do what he wants. He can spend time with his family. Which is awesome. But if there's musicians and comedians that come out in the meantime and become more popular, then that's awesome for them.
For one thing, Al isn't the only one with a family. It's a struggle for everyone to balance work and family. And by far! Al has it easier than most. Most families struggle to make ends meet. Now this is assuming that the reason for the great length of time between Al's albums is because he wants to spend time with his family.
So in the meantime new people are popping up. Some even rank higher on a comedy chart? Awesome! I have something to listen to. Richard Cheese, the Flight of the Concords, Jonathan Coulton, Bo Burnham, Stephen Lynch, the Key of Awesome, Auto Tune the News, the Axix of Awesome, et al. And Lonely Island is amazing. Brilliant. They aren't taking attention away from Al. They are well deserving of their own attention. Might be hard to believe, but there's probably Lonely Island fans that aren't fans of weird al...
I'm sorry, but if anything Al is continually going into hiatus until he feels like coming out. Something tells me he doesn't view things the way you go. But if he's losing attention, it's his own doing. Al doesn't deserve to be number 1 just because he always has, or everyone expects him to be. It's almost as if he has a monopoly on the comedy music thing, and you seem to be whining that he has competion that are getting more attention?
Well I hope he keeps getting more competetion and better competetion. I'm sorry. At the same time I honestly do thing it's great that Al is at a point in his career that he can wait til he wants to put out an album and spend more time with his family, and the same time it pisses me off. I can't go five years without fresh comedy music. So that's why I love Lonely Island and Richard Cheese, et al, probably just as much as I love Weird Al.
