I don't know about anyone else, but I was a little put off by the statement. One of the reasons I have admired Al is because he didn't get into political discussions. I didn't understand his justification in getting into political topics now. Don't get me wrong, I still am a big fan of Al. I am, however just a little ticked off.

I theorize that the reporter was merely a prying, obnoxious, celebrity-harassing jerk who just wouldn't let Al be until he was reluctantly given some kind of straight forward political insight, something he knew Al didn't wish to discuss publicly.

If there was a Weird Al Reaction Hall of Fame, Nelly would go right up there with Nirvana and Michael Jackson.

(Of course, that's probably the only way Nelly would have his name up with Nirvana and Michael Jackson in any kind of Hall of Fame.... )

Al has beliefs. He is a human being, after all. Relax, he's not running for California governor.

Yeah, the Nelly reaction is great. He gave Al and the band their costumes which is polkariffic!

I read a Houston review over on AMW-A where the poster said that Al introduced Berm as "California's next Governor -- Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz." Now, that's funny, no matter which side you're on.

It wasn't so much the statement that upset me(he does make a good point). It was the fact that Al has said that he doesn't like to comment on politics, yet he turned around and commented on them. It seems just a teeny bit hypocritical to me. But, I suppose the reporter could have been a little weasel. I will always support Al no matter what, but that does not mean that I will support his statements. I think if he says he's not comment on something, he should stick to that and not comment on it.

You know... it's not like he started the discussion. He was answering questions. And in typical Yankovic style, you can read whatever you want into his statements, but I don't think we are any closer to knowing what he thinks about any of the issues raised.

And it's not like there was an edict from on high that Al couldn't discuss politics. It's not, you know, the 11th commandment or anything.

Personally, I love the interviews where the interviewer cares enough to try to get new info.

Interesting about Nelly. And that Avril didn't know who he was doesn't surprise me at all.

Good interview.

That's all true, Scottidog. You make a good point. But, I do think we have a much better idea into how Al feels about the issues. It was the statement about Gov. Gray Davis in which Al said, "It's not like he sent our troops into Iraq without a reason." He couldn't have made it much clearer how he feels. And furthermore, is he forced to answer all the questions a reporter asks him? Couldn't he say "No comment"?

And if it was, as you seem to assume, a slam against you know who... so what?

Don't get me wrong, I love Dub and I support him in this issue. But if Al doesn't, he can't comment? I seem to remember a little thing called the First Amendment to the Constitution.

Just because Al has in the past avoided political discussions, doesn't mean that he has no right to discuss them. And I can't remember anything that Al has said that states specifically that he will not, at any time, ever discuss politics. The best I could come up with is a statement that he said during the MSN Chat earlier this year:

QUOTE Republican3104 in Onstage4 asks:

Are you a Republicac?

Weird Al Yankovic says:

I don't care to give out my species like that.

If you've got a better source, I'd love to see it.

Mama Bear,

who takes words like "hypocrite" pretty seriously.

Look, let's just end this whole discussion. I'm never really comfortable discussing politics, and I'm even less comfortable when I discuss them in a non-political environment. Like I stated before, I love Al, and will always be a fan. The use of the word "Hypocrite" may have been a little harsh, but that's simply the way I feel. I never said Al didn't have the right to say what he said, I said that I didn't like that he said it. I stick to that opinion, and my opinion, like Al's, is also protected under the 1st ammendment. There, I'm done with the politics.

Always a fan!!! LONG LIVE YANKOVIC!!!!!!!!
