Is AL-TV returning or did you find a nice interview? Just tell the folks here.

So, can anyone verify that the commentary for Back to School is the first time Al's ever made a political joke?

I have to say, I agree with that review. I love UHF, but TWAS...it's not really a great show by any means. Every episode does have a couple of amusing bits, but overall, it's like a bad infusion of Sesame Street with a touch of Pee-wee's Playhouse. If Al had done a mockery of "kid's shows," it would have been perfect...instead, he got stuck doing a mediocre educational series. I'm still glad I have the set especially for the commentaries and like I said, there are some funny bits in each episode.

But I can't just blindly praise any product with Al's name on it (and I'm not accusing anyone here of doing that either).

I'll tell you right now....I didn't even get through the first episode back when it came on tv. I didn't like the show at all.

I will be picking this up solely for commentaries and the few bits I've heard and seen since which I found very good.

No, I don't know why I didn't care for it. But I don't think that makes me a bad Al fan. There's stuff in UHF I don't like. There's songs by Al I don't like.

That review may have been harsh, but it was very well written and thought out. It's certainly a lot better and thought out then "It's times like this we must admire the easilly amused" or wahtever that insulting non-review by a so called critic was. It explained why he didn't like it. And he has his rights...there's a difference between critics and people who don't say why they don't like things. And has been pointed out, it's not an anti-Al beat him up review. The guy gets it...just he's more like me as far as Al fans go.

(Though I certainly do like UHF)

Well, I actually like the show-- at least, I think it's oddly charming. :) It definitely has some cute and funny moments, and I must say, I love the set design. Although, my being a huge fan of Al's stuff in general adds a lot. I think the biggest problem was the subtle-as-a-brick morals, but that was CBS's fault. The show could've been a lot better if it wasn't for all that forced educational mess.

But even so, overall? I kinda like it. Now, if only my dad would get some so I'd know if I have the DVD or not... XD

Another review of the DVD... apparently from the future, as it's marked with tomorrow's date.

The Weird Al Show (Shout Factory)

If you can't stand Weird Al Yankovic, you're a cold soul indeed. But you wouldn't want to drive to Mexico with the guy. Watching 13 of the 20-minute episodes of his failed kids' show is like eating a pound of candy corn. CBS wanted it to be the second coming of Pee-wee's Playhouse, but it never reaches those lofty heights, mostly mixing amusing bits of strangeness with forced moralizing. The show is so awkward that you'll switch quickly to the commentary tracks. "The way to watch this show is with dramatically lowered expectations," Yankovic says, and then he and his co-creators go on a tirade against the idiocy of CBS executives. Not only is it a frank glimpse into network politics, but stupid network heads actually are endlessly amusing. -- Harper

That review may have seemed a bit harsh, but you could tell he was an Al fan...just not of the show really. I didn't like all of the parts of the Weird Al Show when I first saw it, but there are bits that I adore.

Even some of my favorite TV shows have parts that I just hate.

I keep going for the commentaries. I love Al's commentaries.

Now although I don't have the DVD yet, I have seen all the episodes thanks to Jace for hosting them a while back. And these reviews are pretty much exactly what I expected for critics. And I think we can all agree, if this show wasn't done by Al, none of us would never dream or think or do anything to get anywhere near to this show. But as I've heard, Al has delivered another one of his excellent commentaries. And for that I am buying the DVD. I wouldn't reccommend this show to my friends, because frankly, it would completely turn them off of anything Weird Al. Al did a brave thing, releasing this on DVD for everyone to watch.

Nonetheless, I'm still buying one or five or twenty-seven copies.

What I meant, put a bit more negatively. Lol. The show did have some pretty hard-to-watch points, agreed, but it also had some pretty cute and amusing scenes as well.

I'm a pretty positive person, so I like to think that the good outweighs the bad, buuut everyone's entitled to think what they think. =P

Exactly.

I haven't checked out the commentaries yet (I watch all of the episodes before checking out any extras) and I'm really pacing this set out. It's only 13 episodes, and it isn't a show that I can really do a marathon of. I'm surprised a lot of people seem to be speeding through it.
