Thanks so much for that VideoCity Live 1986-90 clip, Flusher5! I really enjoyed that.

I also thoroughly enjoyed Johnny Bravo. What a great idea for a show! Let's hear it for a flying version of Weird Al. :)

Yeah, I remember this! I got to see it on TV for free! (WTOV-9 in Steubenville, OH always broadcasts Jamboree in the Hills live).

Here's a little background...

Al had done a concert at the Capitol Music Hall in Wheeling earlier that year (2000). I went to that concert, and it seemed like it was pretty successful.

Now, WWVA used to broadcast this weekly country music radio show from the Capitol Music Hall, and Jamboree in the Hills is tied in with that.

I'm just conjecturing here, but maybe they booked Al thinking that since his Wheeling concert went well, they booked him for JITH.

Well, you see how that worked out...

I really felt bad for Al watching those people either just boo or ignore him. Really, a lot of the people who go to JITH seem to be there just to party and drink beer. I sure wouldn't bother going there just to sit with a bunch of drunks in the hot sun and sit through boring (to me) country acts just to see Al! And I wouldn't boo the country acts just because I'm not interested in them.

The on-air commentators from WTOV didn't seem too familiar with Al (other than maybe for "Eat It"). But that interview he did afterward was great, and it really made me feel proud to be an Al fan. I think the reporters were impressed too. Best line - "They're enjoying themselves on the inside!"

PixelDust, thank you for that background commentary. It sounds like sound speculation to me about how Al ended up with this mismatched audience.

Weird, thank you so much for that link. Alas, I must run to bed, as it's a work night. But I hope the link stays up so I can watch the whole show!
