What about an artist that denies permission on one project and then greenlights another one....like The Offspring? They didn't approve the full on "Come Out and Play" parody, but were OK with "Pretty Fly for a White Guy"

The Offspring are most certainly not on "the list."

That's a clear example of an artist who had no problem with an Al parody in general, but felt that the song he wanted to do was not really the best choice for one reason or another...

Which kinda sucks, since I always thought "Laundry Day" was a funnier parody than "Pretty Fly for a Rabbi". As has been pointed out many times, "Rabbi" feels like a strange choice since the song it's spoofing was already funny. I prefer when Al parodies songs that take themselves seriously, like "Lose Yourself" or "You're Beautiful".

I personally don't care that "You're Pitiful" isn't going to be on the album. In fact it's actually a good thing in my book. Normally Al has 11 or 12 songs on an album. I think this album was planning on having 11 do to the fact that when they had 11 songs recorded, they were unsure if the album was "done". Now, Al is going to record another song or two and we got "You're Pitiful" in beautiful CD quality anyway. Unlike most of the time when artists or whatever decline, "You're Pitiful" will not just go into the Concert Only stuff. It's like we're getting an extra song for free. It's perfect quality, it's mixed. What difference does it make if it's on the album or not. Yeah the record label were being a bunch of little bitches about it. But Al and his fans still came out on top anyway. So screw 'em.

It's not perfect CD quality, but it is pretty darn good for an online download.

I agree with Seth. I think, although, yeah, the record company sucks, this is a classic case of lemons out of lemonade. Thanks to "You're Pitiful" being a free download, Al's back in the public eye in spades, following the lack of success of Poodle Hat. Just look at all of the You're Pitiful n00bs! I think it will help the new album sell, and also help the tour's success. Look at the AOL people saying they want another tour. Well, guess what? You got it.

Actually, Poodle Hat was Al's highest charting debut week, but if "Couch Potato" had a video to go along with it, it would be easy to imagine the song as another Amish Paradise or Smells Like Nirvana level of success.

That's what I mean. Plus, nobody really NOTICED it. I mean, yes, some people did, but nothing on it was like, say, "Amish Paradise".

Poodle Hat has yet to go Gold, so compared the Platinum successes of Bad Hair Day and Running With Scissors, it hasn't been successful. Even if the songs are just as good and in many cases better, the bottom line is money.
