This line stuck out to me as Al being true to his parody roots. ... and eating.

A well-thought out review :Y Thanks

ETA: a :Y to Ludo too. This line sums it up beautifully
Al is CELEBRATING economy and honesty and pragmatic real life attitudes, not making fun of people who arent rich.

After 2 days of listening to it, I agree with those who have trouble recalling any lyric beyond "you can have whatever you like." No fault of the cleverness of the words but more a problem with the mundaneness of the "melody" IMO.
This means something. This is important.

Ludo, I enjoyed your lovely take on the meaning. I'm not as sweet as you, however. I think, as in "Don't Download this Song", the lyrics do have a double meaning-- poking fun as well as sympathizing. But that's the basis of good comedy-- you laugh because it hurts.
.....
I think of this song as if the "Good Enough For Now" guy grew up a bit and got real; got some humanity and a bit of awareness.

Al's humour is near the bone, but it's only cruel if you are hooked on self delusion imo.

 Yes!

And "Shawty" is, as I found while researching T.I. the other day, a rival rapper. They send jabs back and forth to each other in their songs, I guess. *shrug*

I take blame on 22 of those replies (now 23) :P

Found this on my morning news search....

Weird Al Yankovic Exposed For Stealing DeadlyX Song "Whatever You Like"

For some reason I don't think Al's worried.

Seriously, the parody that this DeadlyX hack came up with pretty much amounts to a slam about overweight and ugly people, so I have to wonder if this "writer" (blogger? message board member? whatever the dynamics of the site are) actually listened to Al's parody or is just enraged that someone else had the nerve to come up with another, and infinitely better, parody of a very simplistic hip hop song.

Coincidentally, this goes back to my point about the non-risk of Al waiting a while to release a parody in order to get it just right. Crap like this is his "competition," and then when Al's version comes out the difference is like night and day.

All I've gotta say is good thing Al didn't steal my (and Abbot's :lookaround:) idea of "I Kissed A Squirrel" or I would have rioted and burned his MySpace page down! :stern:

Wow, thanks for that awesome review, Greg!

I agree, for the most part. I don't really have time right now to go into some long explanation.

The two songs don't sound similar at all. It's like me saying "OMG! Al! You stole my idea for Pancreas! DAMN YOU!!!!!!"

Of course, my idea for pancreas was just me randomly running around the house screaming "I like my Pancreas so much, it's awesome! wheeee!!!"

Bad analogy, but really, his song is crap, and barely makes sense.

This song is okay. I got a little excited when I read it was about the economy, but I guess I should have expected to be primarily about food. I think taking the same name as the original was stupid and lazy; perhaps if he spent more than two weeks on it he could've come up with a different name and, overall, something more impressive. And where is the video, my gosh?
