He did make the video for 'Bob', which became the video for PH, but it's the video for the lead parody that helps to promote the album. Also, it seems that Eminem waited until it was too late for Al to make another good video, as the video for Bob was pretty rushed, IIRC. If Al had had more time he might have chosen to do a video for a different parody that would have been better to promote the album.

I thought I remembered seeing the video for "Bob". I agree that it is the lead song's video on any record that helps to better promote it. I haven't read the specifics on what happened with Eminem and the video.

i was going to write "He did make the video for 'Bob', which became the video for PH [though some fans would argue that Bob isn't a video]" but i changed my mind

Why isn't it a video? Sorry, I'm not terribly knowledgable about such things, having not been in the serious loop for awhile now. :?

well, by definition it is a video, but some people, mainly Dave, believe that it isn't a video. I think this is because of the fact that it was rushed or something...I can't remember Dave's reasoning, but someone else probably can...

Basically, Eminem gave Al permission to do both a parody and a video. Al recorded the song and had planned the video when Eminem changed his mind about the video. The video was already in pre-production when Al got word that he no longer had permission to do it. At that time, Al didn't have time to go to the trouble of planning and making another video, which is why "Bob" is the only video we got. Al said that the video for "Couch Potato" was going to be his most ambitious to date.
Oh by the way, I've cracked the code.

Which leads to another factor. Al and the label had to put money into the pre-production of the video, money they most likely couldn't get back. I don't know what kind of amount we're talking about, but since it seems as if they were, as Al has said, putting all their eggs into the Eminem basket, it was no doubt going to be a costly production, possibly even the equivalent of two of Al's normal videos.

Do we know for sure that Al specifically had video permission from Em that was later denied, or did Al get song permission (and possibly lead-off parody permission) and never thought to ask Em for video permission and then Em denied video permission once he was told there'd be a video?

Well IIRC, Daves reasoning that BOB wasna a video was that it was only showed on Al Tv, nowhere else. So basically it was just a segment on Al Tv. But of course since Al included it on TUVC, it must be considered a video.

And as far as "The List", if you include Prince, you have to include Sir Paul and any other artist that denied permission.
