I was at the concert where we saw the ring for the first time..... but I don't remember anyone being upset about it, just surprised.... I was a frequent poster in Gals at the time and knew pretty well all of the frequent posters (can't vouch for everyone on the list at the time, mind you eh?), and everyone seemed happy for him... Proof of this is that most of us either send in presents or donated in their honor to Comic Relief. I don't know who the dirty looks came from, but it was certainly not from anyone I associated with at the time.
Remember, back then Al-Gals were made to be "evil" by certain people that were very active on the newsgroups at the time. There was a lot of rumors and ill-willed comments made about us and 99.99999% of them were nothing but a load of bull****. I don't want those days to come back on account of something said on the show that IMHO was not directed to any particular group.
Yikes! I did not think anyone would relate Gals to this after all these years![]()

From Patti: I remember someone being banned from the STUPID Club, because their jealousy had delved into hateful comments towards Suzanne, posted right in the group. I do not remember who it was, but we never heard from that person again. I agree with Maria. I think Suzanne used the term "lady Al fans" so as not to point out any particular group. Just a generic term. I was certainly happy for Al when I found out he was engaged, and once I met Suzanne at AlCon III, I found her to be very nice and easy to talk to, so this Al Gal was, and still is, cool with it.
Uh-oh--I skipped a page when I was reading this thread, so never saw these replies. You know what? I forget that when I refer to "Al Gals" that there is an actual group called that. I use the term in a much more generic sense, so I apologize for that and I will try to be careful about it.
Also, I'm really sorry I misunderstood you Maria, because I honestly thought you had told me that some of these women (not necessarily from that group) were a little bent out of shape. My bad! Anyway, ancient history, as you say, and I'm glad that one troublemaker Patti referred to went away.
