If knowing what songs are going to be played in any way effects your enjoyment of the show, then you've got some messed up priorities. That's like saying you went to an A-Ha concert and it wasn't as good because you read on the internet before the show that they ended with an encore of Take On Me. That's a completely ludicrous line of thinking.
Of course I know what the show will be like after the first time I go to one, but it's been TWO YEARS since Al's been touring, so it would be refreshing for that first time around to be an actual fresh experience. The thing is, Al concerts only change from tour-to-tour, and they have a definite shape for every tour. Most other bands have a very loose set and it's typically okay if you hear about what they play because they change it up more often, but with Al, that rarely happens. If there's any "surprise" to the show, it'll have to be a dang special show. Other than that, what people have left is that we don't want to see the inevitable set before we go in. That DOES ruin the experience, because then you'll go to the show and probably be disappointed with whatever is confirmed.

Being at the show without knowing that, at least you didn't get your pre-show hype excitement to die. I'm not saying it's life-changing; it's just better.

"Pre-Show Hype"? I could see getting excited for a concert and all, but it's not exactly the Super Bowl or anything. If knowing the set list in any way lessens your enjoyment of the show, then you probably wouldn't have enjoyed it very much in the first place. It's a concert, that's all, you go for the music, there's nothing more to it. To say that knowing the set list of the show takes away from the experience is almost an insult in a way, it's like saying to Al that the music doesn't stand on its own merit, and you need some sort of external mystery in order to fully enjoy the show.

That in itself is like saying that Al himself doesn't consider himself to have that merit because he WANTS it to be a surprise.

Also, I NEVER said that I want to walk into every Al concert like that. I'm talking about the FIRST show each of us will experience. I'm still going to enjoy the following shows this tour... I'm only talking about the first show we'll see this year... Again, I'm still going to like it (so you can stop thinking I won't), it's just makes it more FUN to me. Is that not acceptable?

"insult in a way"? I could see being nonchalant and just enjoying the ride without any pre-attendance mentalities, but it's not exactly a super serious goal. If assuming this is some's attempt at enhancing or solidifying the likelihood of their enjoyment, then you probably wouldn't have gotten the point very much in the first place. It's a fun little notion, that's all, we live in a society of FIND OUT RIGHT AWAY. to say that such ideas are ridiculous, insulting, or the like is a legitimate insult. It's like saying to another fan that his opinion doesn't stand on its own merit, and you need some sort of perspective more like yours in order to fully enjoy the show.

Edit: You walked right into that.

Huh? I don't get you, it's a concert, who says Al wants anything to be an surprise? It's a concert, not a movie. You go to hear the music, that's all.

Well we've made our cases. The cows getting milked dry. What I'm excited to know is if Al has a bigger trick up his sleeve than Albuquerque for an encore. Can he top that? Time will tell- whether we look up the setlist after the first show or just go see it.

He said it himself. I'm done with your complaints about how some people want to experience their first show this tour.

I don't complain about getting all the details before the tour, so I'm sure you can make this a non-issue as well.

Why is anyone here casting judgments on how anyone else decides to experience a concert? Sure, some people have their weird quirks but that's their right as an Al fan. Hell, there are still people who haven't listened to the Internet Leaks because they consider those to be spoilers for the eventual album.

My view on spoilers is the same as Minnick posted upthread. If Al releases it, it ain't a spoiler, and on the forum it does not need to be treated as such. As a mod, I won't be modding this stuff as if it should be a spoiler. If you're trying to not know til you attend your own show, you'll just need to be careful what you read. Which is going to be a problem for you anyway if you WAY surf. Even if we kept it as a spoiler here, no one else out there will be.

So, if you're trying to be "unspoiled" surf and read with care.
