BONUS TASK #3: Tally up the number of events that fell on each day of the week. If you have the dates correct, this will be fairly easy (albeit time-consuming). Each day you get a correct tally for is worth a point, so you can score up to seven extra points here.
Remember, your entries must be submitted by 8 PM EDT tomorrow! Still waiting on several entries.

Re: Weird Al Survivor IX - Gameplay Thread
Once again, I regrettably must announce another iffy event, date-wise...
26. "It's Still Billy Joel to Me" tops the Dr. Demento Funny 5 for the first time
Dave pointed out and additional research confirms that the Funny 5 is only part of the syndicated Dr. Demento show; not the Los Angeles show (which appears to have had a top 10 countdown). ISBJTM was #1 on the L.A. show prior to hitting #1 on the syndicated show. Technically, only the latter should qualify as a correct answer, but being not very well-versed in Dr. Demento myself, I had no idea and assumed that the former was correct. So as with the "Phony Calls" Simpsons episode, I will accept both answers in that slot since they're close enough to not push much around...

Re: Weird Al Survivor IX - Gameplay Thread
Ok, folks...the challenge is over and as promised, before any scores are announced, I'm going to give a 24-hour period to raise any objections to placements and dates. If you feel that there's a mistake, please provide documentation. Please note: I have not tabulated any scores yet, so I have no idea who won. I only briefly glanced at the answers, so for the most part I have no idea who put what where, etc. so that will not play a part in which, if any, alleged mistakes are 'remedied.'
On the list below, some events have two numbers listed next to them. As described above, because of the discrepancies regarding ISBJTM topping the Funny 5 and Simpsons "Phony Calls" episode's airdate, a few select events will be accepted if you put them in either of the two slots. In the case of clues that weren't completely straightforward, I've included additional information in brackets after the date.
The earliest event was Steve Jay is born (January 26, 1951). The latest was Billy Joel sings "It's Still Billy Joel to Me" at a Q&A with college students (March 19, 2012). The difference is 22,333 days.
BONUS TASK #2
Again, because of the discrepancy of the two events, some months have two acceptable answers.

BONUS TASK #3

Re: Weird Al Survivor IX - Gameplay Thread
This challenge proved to be quite difficult--the results were pretty varied and unexpected, to the point where someone who is no longer in the game dominated! More on that later. Let's start off with the number of correct answers each player had.
I did not receive submissions from AAAmerah, MissyMoo38, Mystik Tomato, RyanHippFTW or WeirdMary0427.
Wizzerkat had just one answer in the correct slot, but she also got 2 bonus points for the first task and 1.5 for the second. Her score before the multiplier is 4.5.
Big Spoon had nine answers in the correct slot.
TMBJon had 13 answers in the correct slot.
the dingo had 22 answers in the correct slot.
Killingsworth had 28 answers in the correct slot.
Of course, the number of answers in the correct slot was only part of this challenge--you also had to submit early enough to secure a decent multiplier. Each person who participated in this challenge received a multiplier from 6 to 10.
Wizzerkat was the fifth to submit. Her score of 4.5 gets multiplied by 6 for a total of...27 (which is easily the coolest score of the bunch, but alas, it's not the highest).
Big Spoon was the third to submit. His score of 9 gets multiplied by 8 for a total of 72.
TMBJon was the first to submit. His score of 13 gets multiplied by 10 for a total of 130.
the dingo was the second to submit. His score of 22 gets multiplied by 9 for a total of 198.
So that, of course means that Killingsworth was the fourth to submit. His score of 28 gets multiplied by 7 for a total of.........
196.
By just two points, THE DINGO WINS IMMUNITY!!!!

Tribal Council will be posted shortly.
BTW, remember what I said earlier about a player who wasn't even in the game dominating the challenge? Elvis competed just for fun and missed only four answers (and he actually had the dates right; he just mixed up the order). He submitted after Jon and dingo, so his score would have been 368...

Tribal Council 9

Welcome, Survivors, to Tribal Council. This is where you will answer for your actions and your contributions to the tribe. At Tribal Council, fire represents life on the island. When your fire's gone, so are you.
Each of you will send me a Private Message with the name of the person you want to vote out of the tribe. Please use their actual SCREENNAME, so that it will be easier to tally the votes. You can include a reason if you'd like, but you don't have to. Once you've cast your vote, you may not change it. If any Tribe Members fail to vote by 9 p.m. EDT Sunday, April 1, their vote will count as an automatic vote against them. Once all the votes have been cast, I will tally and then read the votes.
AAmerah
Big Spoon
Killingsworth
MissyMoo38
Mystik Tomato
RyanHippFTW
TMBJon
WeirdMary0427
Wizzerkat
One of you will be the ninth person voted out of Weird Al Survivor IX and the second official member of our jury. Unless...
the dingo
You have individual immunity, but if you wish, you may:
-Give it away to another player
-Give it up in exchange for casting two votes at tonight's Tribal Council
-Give it up in exchange for an advantage at the next immunity challenge
Because I'm extending this voting period to 48 hours instead of 24, dingo, you have until 5 PM EDT Saturday, March 31 to announce in this thread if you wish to take one of these options. Otherwise, it will be assumed that you will be holding on to it. Please do not send me any votes until dingo posts his decision, or that 5 PM EDT deadline passes.
If you have the hidden immunity idol and you wish to play it this round, you must inform me via PM before the voting deadline. Remember that you may not play it on behalf of another player, and you may not give it to someone else during the voting period (you may, however, inform me via PM that you wish to do so until the 5 PM EDT deadline on Saturday). If there are any questions about Tribal Council, ask them here, but remember to keep all Chit Chat in the Chit Chat thread.
As a reminder--if WeirdMary0427 does not vote this round, it will be her third self-vote, and she will be removed from the game in addition to the person who is voted out.

Tribal Council #9 Discussion
As always, these questions are entirely optional--you can answer as many or as few as you wish, either here or in the Chitchat topic.
1. Based on past history, it seems fair to say that this immunity win came at a crucial time for dingo. Does it force you to personally alter your strategy, short-term or long-term?
2. Who do you consider your biggest threat of the remaining players?
3. For the second round in a row, multiple people did not submit entries for the challenge. What is your take on this--is it better to keep these players around because they increase your odds of winning challenges, or do you want an active group of competitors?
4. After this vote, we'll be down to single digits, with half the cast gone. With that in mind, how far do you think your current strategy will take you in this game?
5. Elvis had some critical final words after he was voted out last round, about the majority of players needing to step up their games. Do you think he raised a fair point? And seeing that he's on the jury and will have a say in deciding who wins, does it make you reconsider how you're playing this game?

Re: Weird Al Survivor IX - Gameplay Thread
For anyone, they *should* be re-thinking things. Want a better chance to win challenges? Keep around "weaker" players who are sucking at them. Why keep a player around from *any* former tribe when they are performing pretty well at challenges, giving *you* less of a chance of winning? Keep players around you know you can beat and will probably vote how you want? Even better.anthontherun wrote:1. Everyone.anthontherun wrote:2. Who do you consider your biggest threat of the remaining players?
Sure, these people may increase one's chances for challenges, but those who actually take the effort to *play* the game should be rewarded, not people who don't care to show up anymore. If self-voting out occurs, numbers fall and as a player you might have less time to make an impact with any additional support behind you. Hell, even Elvis played for the fun of it. Of course, he would have won, showing how getting rid of any strong challenge players could be an advantage to you.anthontherun wrote:3. Elvis raised great points. People should consider his words. Do juries vote for someone who practically willingly gives the game to other players out of some sort of tribal (or perhaps alliance) loyalty or to someone who makes good game moves and actually makes an effort to win the game? I know if I were on the jury I know what my answer would be.anthontherun wrote:5. Re: Weird Al Survivor IX - Gameplay Thread
#1: SPOILER ALERT! I wasn't going to vote for Dingo this round anyway, even if it would potentially be a bad idea. So, no, I don't think it's going to alter my strategy.
#2: I would think that's obvious, even to non-players.
#3: Wizzerkat raises a great point about how people playing should be rewarded, rather than people not submitting entries. (SAYS THE HYPOCRITE WHO DIDN'T SUBMIT ONE DOHOHOHOHO) However, I see the people who aren't playing yet are still casting votes to be interesting strategists by letting the better players fight and enter the power vacuum when they're voted out. It might backfire, but it's interesting, nonetheless.
#4: Honestly, I'm not expecting to get far considering my current strategy.
#5: To me, it was not dissimilar to Stephen's leaving speech. A childish "Well, your strategy sucks because it got me kicked out" rant. Holy smurf, if we hadn't voted Dave out, he would have won Immunity again. Derpdedoo. If I was winning immunity again and again and had the potential to win again and again, I have no doubts that Dave would have wanted to vote me out and would have conspired with others to get me voted out the first chance he had. But apparently when it's done to him, it's a whole different ballgame.

BTW, Mystik, I was actually talking about those who consistently don't don't do.. whatever, not those who might stay out for one challenge for whatever reason.
BTW, Anth, if Mary does self-vote out, does she get to still be on the jury? I hope this hasn't been answered somewhere and I just missed it.
IMO, Mary doesn't deserve to be on the jury(no offense).

Minnick is lined up to take her place....which sure adds more fun to this game come jury time

You have quickly thought up such matchless phrase?
