Re: Next Lead Single
He did do Snack All night, but as a concert only song. So you never know, he could do a Born This Way parody as a concert only....or not. Also, he didn't do a Tears In Heaven parody (someone asked) because of how personal a song it was for Eric Clapton. So I think there are some songs he won't touch.
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:
"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11
So awesome!
Al Team #325

Re: Next Lead Single
I think the difference between Black Or White and Born This Way is it wasn't so overt with the message, and the video made the song more goofy/peppy/upbeat (What better way to spread messages of love and tolerance than with the Home alone kid and Norm?) than a "message" song (Unless you count that bizarre original ending)
And plus, a pre-existing relationship certainly didn't hurt.....

Re: Next Lead Single
There's a big difference between "this song shouldn't be parodied (because it's sacred)" and "I don't want to parody this song because it would feel weird." I don't think he's morally opposed to the idea of "Born This Way" parodies existing, they're just not going to come from him (that is, assuming he hasn't changed his mind since Jon talked to him). He's not morally opposed to profanity in comedy either, it's just not the kind of comedy he produces.Wizzerkat wrote:Al apparently now does think there are songs too sacrosanct to parody.. Am I dreaming the first part up here or misremembering something? Considering he has always said there were no songs too sacrosanct to parody, this represents a policy change.

Re: Next Lead Single
Here is a set of dates that may be of interest here:
White & Nerdy was recorded July 22.
Ridin' was released January 12, but peaked the charts June 3-10, a little more than a month before Al recorded his parody.
Couch Potato was recorded on March 21.
Lose Yourself was released October 22 the previous year, but topped the charts all of November and December of 2002, about 3-4 months before Al recorded CP.
With that in mind, here are the #1 hits of the last four months in reverse chronological order:
Katy Perry "E.T.," Lady Gaga "Born This Way," Wiz Khalifa "Black and Yellow," Bruno Mars "Grenade," Britney Spears "Hold It Against Me," Katy Perry "Firework"
Just something to think about...

Re: Next Lead Single
Why does it have to be rap and pop?? He could very well be doing rock. and I believe that Al likes to pick a lead parody of a song that at least 98% of the fans actually have heard before...lol!! Out of the whole list up there, I've only heard of one of those songs..lol
...our neighbors septic tank was the closest thing we had..

Re: Next Lead Single
Hate to break it to you, but you're the 2 percent, then.
It's a pop world. I hate it, you hate it, but that's the reality. Rock (And really now rap) became so loaded with trends and subgenres in their years of dominance that nowadays only the cream stays successful and when huge new artists emerge, they just go onto mildly successful careers.
Stay tuned in ten years....pop seems to already be splintering.
Question: Has Al ever lead off an album with a "second" (Etc) single from an established artist's new album? (I mean real first single on radio, MTV, not promotional stuff...). I could see him doing Grenade since Bruno Mars is still a newer artist, but I just can't see it being E. T. or Firework

Well it's been a while, but I think Beat It followed Billie Jean. ? I really don't think it matters as long the second song was just as big, or bigger. I could see Firework, bbut E.T. seems too recent to be included in the right time frame, nor big enough. I'm not sure why he leaves out CeeLoo, because I think it's the best bet. Also would consider Pink. Also, I would take Jar of Hearts as a Dark Horse.
