Why not DL the single on Monday and NOT listen to it. We NEED to help Al chart this new single higher!

It's going to also be released through Amazon, at least. Not just iTunes. I agree. We all need to help Al chart this high.

It could also just be something they put together in haste, and the single art is planned to be something more awesome.

Whatinthe27 wrote:In Al's blog, it sounded to me like he was talking to her people, and quote "Lady Gaga says no". Unless she talks in the third person, it was her people he had the discussion with. He even says so. Personally I see a world where management screens calls and letters and don't convey the message directly to the artists unless they deem it important enough, and yes, i can see a world where management doesn't deem Al wanting to do a parody important enough to stop and tell Gaga about it directly. Although it's more likely they just wanted to make the decision for her, just as Coolio's management, and Blunt's management, and the Kink's management....way back in the 80's with Lola/Yoda. That's why Yoda doesn't appear on an album until Dare To Be Stupid. The way I remember hearing it, Al happened to meet Ray Davies in person and asked him why he didn't approve of Yoda, and Ray told him he never heard about Al asking for permission it, he thought it was great idea, so Al re-recorded it for the album. (the demo version had been on Dr D for years.)
Does anyone else notice a pattern here? I do, and it's not looking good for the artists of today. Lady Gaga's manager, just like Coolio's and Kink's record labels, went as far as blatantly lying just to get his way. The method seems at best disrespectful, at worst illegal. What do these people get from all this power abuse, besides hatred by the mainstream public? Something really needs to be done.

Though, still, it's not completely their faults. After Kink and after Coolio, Al promised to go directly to the artist from then on, and this week has been proof that it's a promise Al just hasn't kept.

Sometimes you just can't go directly to the artist, especially huge artists like Lady Gaga.

Yeah, the manager could have told Al he COULDN'T talk to her.

JCM is right. After all of these mishaps, Al should make it a point to actually talk to the artist when at all possible. Obviously in this case, that would likely be improbable. I'd like to think from now on, if he was getting turned down for a parody, he would say to the manager or spokesperson "Okay, are you sure this is coming from the artist? Because remember what happened two years ago when Lady Gaga's manager screwed up?"
