Let me go on record then to confirm that Al is in fact my cup of tea.

I was just doing some obligatory surfing over at Amazon. (Still no pre-orders of a certain unnamed but soon to be released album) and found this.

From the editorial review section :

From Publishers Weekly
From novelist Chinua Achebe to pop culture oddity Al Yankovic, CNN talk show host King collects 122 sentimental recollections of fathers and fatherhood. King's piece opens the collection; while his father died when King was just nine, King finds "I think about him almost all the time." The following short pieces (some fewer than 40 words) vary wildly. Producer, manager and consultant to the stars Bernie Brillstein recalls his father's belief, "When you meet someone new, if the first thing they see is dirty fingernails, their opinion of you won't be too hot." Saturday Night Live alum Victoria Jackson sees her father in moral terms, describing a man who "never had a drink or a cigarette, never cheated on my mom or told a dirty joke." Other recollections are boilerplate: fathers wanting the best for their children, working hard and making sacrifices to make ends meet. In the end, a father's influence on his offspring is difficult to quantify. Public radio superstar Ira Glass sums it up: "This stuff [parenting] just shows up inside us, like a virus that they never intended to transmit and we didn't intend to catch." (On sale May 9)

I know I've been a bit out of the loop lately, but did we know about this? Is it listed at The Mothership?

I saw a copy of this book last weekend. Al's got one page toward the end. One of his best memories of Nick was his advice about how watermelon makes you feel better.
Nick Yankovic wrote: Watermelon -- it's the happy fruit.

You know, I seem to recall hearing that before.

Remember during RWS when Al would wander into this whole recollection thing right before OMM? He'd start off on some story and Rueben would start playing more and more dramatically? I forget which show it was but at least once Al was talking about advice from his dad and starting going on about watermelons and how they were a happy fruit. I remembered it cause it seemed so bizarro.

How funny it seems that bit had a little truth behind it. ^_^

Yep, I posted about the book back on Fathers Day (appropriately enough) in the media forum.

The morning show on WZPL, here in Inianapolis, is doing a Christmas in July show, and they were playing sound bites from celebrities, and they played Weird Al’s Christmas sound bite!

Weird Al has been ripped off already! I was listening to the Wgn news in Chicago and they said this is a song about cubicles, and the music to "your beatiful" started playing. I thought I was going to hear Al's song but then I heard another song about cubicles. I kind of doubt it originated independently from Al's parody.

I don't think it was a ripoff, I think that this station decided to do a parody of Your Beautiful too.
Then again I haven't heard it.
