Haha, that's funny, Jon. You should check out SCTV sometime. There were a lot of really funny sketches on that show.

I guess after this DVD comes out this will pretty much be the end of the year of Al unless there is going to be an Al-Tv or there is something that he has not yet announced. And of course after the tour is done in a month or 2

I am watching this again. The Nirvanna wig is really too short, blonde and not nearly as messy as it should be. I remember noticing that back in May when i saw him. Guess they couldnt find a wig like the old one. Maybe after its out on the road a while it will get a more worn in look.
And a sassy booty shake in the CIA costume would be quite hilarious. A lot better than marching in place but i do see what he was going for. Maybe he will figure something out for that song but i see him dropping this song after he is done touring the album. The YEAH part kinda seems to be a strain. But then again it would be quite hilarious seeing a bunch of nicely dressed 50 something men shaking their butts lol

Re: Comedy Central Special, DVD/Blu-Ray Release
I finally got around to watching this, and mostly agree with the reviews. I mostly found myself bored while watching this, as well as feeling like I have seen all of this before, many, many times. This show in particular was way too heavy on stuff from Alpocalypse. As I have said in previous topics, I really wish Al would be more willing to embrace the fact that at this stage in his career, he is a nostalgia act, plain and simple. As anyone who has ever been to a concert in the past for other nostalgia acts like Journey, Bon Jovi, or any 80's Hair Metal Group, the last thing you want to hear is "and now we're going to play a track off our new album".
If ever there is a quick way to send the crowd running to the bathroom or the concession stand, it's by playing new material. Heck, I was at a Duran Duran concert a few years back where they insisted on playing their ENTIRE new album before they started with their classics, and literally 3/4ths of the crowd stood out in the lobby drinking until they started with Hungry Like the Wolf. That's not to say that the new album is bad, or that the songs aren't any good, but the people attending the concerts are the hardest of hardcore fans, and while I can't say I speak for everyone, this segment of the audience would be much more satisfied hearing more classics and less new material. I know Al doesn't have the same affection for most of his pre-Off the Deep End material that we all do, but we're the ones supporting him, and we're the ones buying these tickets and attending these shows, so instead of like seven tracks from the new album, can we cut it back to maybe three, and mix the set up a bit more? I still love your new music Al, and there's nothing wrong with it, but I like your old stuff a lot more, and when I pay 60 dollars a ticket to see you in concert, that's what I want to see.

I highly disagree that Al is a nostalgia act, but that's for another thread. I liked the thing! Live is better and considering it's The Alpocalypse Tour being heavy on the Alpocalypse stuff for this special was fine. The DVD has everything else!

way to be a buzzkill, spmahn...I think people would anticipate hearing Al's "new" parodies more than his old stuff...I'm under the impression that the hardcore fans are kind of sick of seeing some of the same performances multiple tours and lucky for them that stuff is all at the end so they can beat the traffic...

Well.. If it was for me, I'd love to hear really unusual material during the concert. I'm talkin about stuff like "Generic Blues", "When I Was Your Age" or "Genius In France". But I know it's impossible...

Maybe I'm just jaded because I don't particularly care for any of the new parodies on Alpocalypse. I just don't find them funny. I do agree that a lot of hardcore fans are sick of seeing the same performances on multiple tours, so why not rotate stuff like Like a Surgeon, Eat It, My Bologna, Another One Rides the Bus, etc. every once in a while, and leave out Amish Paradise, Smells like Nirvana, and The Saga Begins. Al has 30 years worth of material to pull from, why should 65% of the show be the same year after year?Killingsworth wrote:way to be a buzzkill, spmahn...I think people would anticipate hearing Al's "new" parodies more than his old stuff...I'm under the impression that the hardcore fans are kind of sick of seeing some of the same performances multiple tours and lucky for them that stuff is all at the end so they can beat the traffic...

Re: Comedy Central Special, DVD/Blu-Ray Release
The shows aren't for us, though. If you leave out the classics, you have very, very disappointed casual fans. The reactions to the classics are always much better, than reactions to songs that we'd like to see played. Trust me, with as many shows as I go to, I'd love to see a varied setlist...but, it's always going to be pretty much the same.
Personally, I think Al has done the best job since I've been following him from 2000, on the setlist for this tour. It's the perfect balance of everything.
