Hey Juliej,
If you get a chance, you can go stand on Al's quote on the Road to Hollywood (in the Hollywood and Highland complex) IIRC, it's near the Victoria's Secret store.
I don't know how accurate the quote is, though; it makes it sound as though Al ditched the band after that disastrous Missing Persons concert, and we know he didn't do that. I think Al was a Victim of Paraphrase on that one.

"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.

I was watching a show on the Canadian music video station, Much More Music, called "Back in '84" I think, when who else appeared on my screen but Al! He made a comment along the lines of "Purple rain was one of the best movies of '84 to star little people, besides Wizard of Oz".
Since I didn't exactly see the "I love the 80s" series, I was wondering, does this sound like footage from the series, but recycled into the canadian show?

Carpe Musica
I'm not being condescending, I'm too busy thinking about far more important things you wouldn't understand.

Is that clip of a more recent Al?Carol @ Jun 4 2006, 10:01 PM wrote: I was watching a show on the Canadian music video station, Much More Music, called "Back in '84" I think, when who else appeared on my screen but Al! Because I remember seeing in his "Behind the Music" Documentary a clip of him commenting on his new UHF movie. He said something along the same line:
"My movie is kind of like Purple Rain, except that it's intentionally funny, and that's all that really matters."
Hahaha. Must have been just as funny though.

The name is John, but you can call me JD! ^~^

Going completely on memory, Al only mentioned "Purple Rain" on "I Love the '80s 3D" in one of his "Movies That Should Have Been Made in 3-D" segments, and there was no mention in that bit of "The Wizard of Oz."Carol @ Jun 5 2006, 04:01 AM wrote: Since I didn't exactly see the "I love the 80s" series, I was wondering, does this sound like footage from the series, but recycled into the canadian show?

I was just watching UHF again and I was thinking about how much I liked the Spatula City bit, when I clicked on a random link on some website, and it led me here. Does that prove that SOME PEOPLE (not me of course O-)) have way too much time on their hands or what?
Oh, hey, and notice the recipient's name. Suzanne...well, I'm pretty sure this is based off UHF anyway, so it's not that much of a coincidence.

Well, I kinda thought of that after I went to bed far too late, with Susie Q & everything. What I had been thinking, if I was in fact thinking at all, was that Susie was usually short for Susan and that they had probably chosen Suzanne on purpose. Thanks for telling me otherwise.

I did go see the Hollywood Walk and the Road to Hollywood and I did take a picture right in front of Victoria's Secret of the quote. It was an interesting trip. The restaurant right above VS is very nice and about as expensive as anywhere else. A bit less than the place across the plaza. There are fast food places too, but I had a craving for something specific.
Parking is very expensive next to the Chinese theatre. They advertise $2 and then the fine print is ANY amount of time after that is $12 total. I was there about an hour and a half. YIKES! I was infomed by an up and coming music producer of hip hop, who was selling his CD's on the sidewalk, that the best place to park is on the street or under the Kodak theatre. (Thanks Sweet Pea! He said I could sell my signed copy of his CD on e-bay when he gets famous.)
Didn't get my bagel. Oh well, next time.

Juliej
Deep down, I'm really very shallow.
