I went to the Potrero War (a camping event with the Society for Creative Anachronism) over Memorial Day weekend, and one evening during the event we were all sitting around in our medieval pavilion, wearing our most medieval clothes, listening to one of our group play "American Pie" on the cello (yes, this is a group that considers it perfectly reasonable to bring cellos on camping trips-- other SCA people also bring full-sized medieval siege engines, trebuchets and ballistas). When she was done, there was a moment of silence, and then one person said, "You know we all had the Weird Al lyrics going through our head. You could practically hear it." So then we did sing the chorus, and someone said that Don McLean would be spinning in his grave, except that he isn't dead. I hastened to assure them all that Mr. Mclean really didn't mind, except that his kids ran around the house singing Al's lyrics.
Yup, the SCA is geek heaven.

"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.

Hey WAY: Live! fans, what are the names of the songs playing in the background of Crimes of Carelessness and Germs and You? I've heard them somewhere before...

I'm going to Beverly Hills and Hollywood on Monday. I have an errand to run and so I'm going to check out the Walk of Fame! Check out parking, eating places a few stars... Get familiar with the area for (i hope) Al's star ceremony.
Perhaps get a REAL bagel on Fairfax Ave.
I'll report back.
