Hey hey new user here, with an equally new Review of the great Poodle Hat.

First off I must say that the quality of the Music in Poodle Hat is excellent. While I always enjoyed the actual music of "Weird Al" and company, this CD is just outstanding in the quality of the originals. The comedy of the CD is about equal to the rest of Yankovic's work, which is a great thing indeed. In fact it might be a little better then normal just for the fact that "Weird Al" doesn't rely on Food and other standard subjects as much as before for satire material.

Onto the song by song analysis.

1. Couch Potato: This song is a great standard first track. All though this song is eerily familar to "I can't watch this". There are some great jokes in here especially the "Watch lions eat christians" part which is very clever. Great rap Parody.

2. Hardware Store: Now this is one heck of a song. The first time I heard it I was blown away by the harmony in the Chorus. And even after hearing it 100 times I still can't get enough of it. And the amazing verse is just icing on the cake. Probably my favorite "Weird Al" song ever. Even though its not incredibly funny, the fact that its so epic about some mundane thing makes it funny. Who gets THIS exicted about a hardware store.

3. Trash Day: Another great rap parody, all though some of the lines don't seem to mesh as well as the other rap parodys. There are about 3 lines that talk about feet. With that being said, I still like this song. Because it is pretty funny and, shamefully it is somewhat biographical about me and my garbage practices. Well not completely but pretty close.

4. Party at the Leper Colony: This song is funny the first few times, but the puns lose impact pretty quickly. But good thing the music is great after the joke wears off. This song is amazingly funny the first few times listening to it. A standard "Weird Al" original.

5. Angry White Boy Polka: I have only heard about half the songs on this polka, but I still think its one of his best yet. It took me a little to get into it because of the yelling. After listening to the actual closely to the music I was hooked. I like the fact that this is more of a concept polka like "The Hot Rock Polka" and "Bohemian Polka".

6. Wanna B Ur Lovr: At first I kind of liked this song. Then I hated it. Now I like it again. I like the cheesy pick up lines, they make for one very funny song. The innuendo part though makes me a bit annoyed, I now can listen to it with out too much of a problem but I still don't like it. I tend to listen to Mr. Yankovic because I don't like the blatant sex that is in most popular music. I got over it though and now like this song again because the music to it is really good.

7. A Complicated Song: Another standard parody. I agree that having a whole song based on one of the verses would be too much, but changing it up makes the song pretty fresh and doesn't get dull.

8. Why Does this Always Happen to Me?: This is another original where I like the music, but the Joke to song is not to my liking. And I don't like the music in this one nearly as Hardware Store. This one is just Okay, and not great like the previous songs. All though I do like that Piano( but who could honestly say they don't).

9. Ode to a Superhero: Probalby my favorite Parody on the Album. Firsty I really like the music to this song, the extra Accordian is great. And the way "Weird Al' sings it is awesome. Also he throws in some jokes about the movie into this song. Which goes above and beyond just explaining the movie, and gives it a little extra edge to it.

10. Bob: This is a great song. I don't know much at all about Bob Dylan, but know enough to get the Joke. And the palindromes are great, in the choosing and the rhyming. They all most sort of kind of make sense which is great too. This song blows away the othe Palindrome song I like "I Palindrome I" by TMBG. Which is still a good song though.

11. Ebay: Another quality Parody. I thought this could have been pretty bad, what with my disdain for Boy Bands. And the seemingly easy subject of Ebay, I thought this song wouldn't be too great. For the most part I was competely wrong. The way Al sings is what makes this song amazing. The subject still doesn't lend it self that many clever jokes, but what is there is funny. And the fact that this sounds like a Love song about Ebay makes it great.

12. Genis in France: Firsty I must say I don't know much about Frank Zappa. I have heard a few songs but nothing major. I do have a general idea of the sound of his music. And I really like this song. At first its difficult to follow and sounds sort of inconsistant. That is part of the fun though. If you listen closely though the quality of the music is amazing. I just can't help but smile every time I hear the line "ever Frenchie that I meet, Just can't wait to kiss my feet". While the joke wears a bit thin around 2/3 of the way through the song, the music keeps it interesting. Probably my second favorite song on the Album, next to Hardware Store.

Well there it is, my views on this great CD. I also must say I loved the extra video. That video is funnier then about every song on here. The Parodies are Classic, the Originals are some of "Weird Al" Yankovic's best yet musically. Only 2 songs I think are kind of weak(realitively speaking of course) are Part at the Lepper colony and Why Does this Always Happen to Me?. Great stuff, I just hope a video comes out soon so more people will purchase this.

Welcome, Pugly!

Aw, c'mon, this is subtle innuendo, not blatant sex. For blatant sex, you'd have to go to the full text of some of the polka'd songs (you know, the lyrics Al didn't use), or else the 23rd chapter of Ezekiel.

I'd better drop the subject now, we've already got a long long long topic on Wanna B Ur Lovr.

And welcome to the forum! It's always good to find another fan of Hardware Store. :)

Hmm... being a fan of a song?.. That's truly interesting. You can be a fan of a group (Metallica, Nirvana, :P Milli Vanilli) or a song (Nothing Else Matters, Smells Like Teen Spirit... umm, yeah...), but the goodness of Al and his music is that he gives us both. :inlove:

Hey dear OE, there's a question I've always wanted to put: What's your astrologicAL sign?

"Life Of Brian": "He's messiah!" "Who, the Capricorn?" :P

You're both Capricorns, at least if you typed correct lyrics. Haha. As for me, all people of my sign are boring and annoying, except for me - I am extremely friendly and intelligent!

Ehehehe... here's an astonishing bit of information for you. OE and I just happen to share the same birthday (but not year.) At least it was astonishing to me.

Uh, it's really amazing. "WOWAY - wherever particular people congregate."

Would you mind if I'll ask you for your birthday date (year is not necessarily, of course :P )

Actually, I think the point of WBUL is to sorta parody the type of songs that you don't like to listen to.

You should appreciate the song for that.

It's kinda like "The Bad Touch" by Bloodhound Gang. My mom hated that song till she saw the video and realized it was a joke.
