It happened with SOL, and happens with most releases nowadays.

Once my preorder comes in the mail, I'll just pop the CD into my computer, rip the songs to iTunes, and I'll either listen to the new songs while doing so, look through the booklet, or just watch the DVD.
Better put your hands up and get in the van, or else you'll get blown away!

Here's a question for those forum members who've been here longer. When the spoiler info for SOL was first leaked, did the actual tracklist come first or did the list of parody subjects come first? I'm pretty sure it was the latter because I seem to remember reading posts here that were people speculating that Al would parody "Yeah!" and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" when Green Day and Usher were first mentioned and if it was the actual tracklist, people wouldn't even be having that discussion because the titles to all the SOL parodies were dead giveaways.

I don't remember at all! Was it PH that the blank tracks were put up on the file sharing sites?

I believe you are correct. That the parodied artists were known before the actual parodied songs. Don't remember how that info was first discovered, though. Might have been straight from the horse's mouth.

I seem to remember that there was an article on the Rolling Stone website or the Billboard website or something about the parody of Ridin', that revealed the other songs being parodied, but not the actual titles. The titles I think came along from the Sony website that lists all the technical details of the albums in their library.

Yes, this happened. I remember listening WAY too much to "Yeah!" before we knew the real target because I was convinced this would be the song that was parodied. Those are many, many minutes of my life I will never get back. . .

The titles and actual songs being parodied came from a woman's blog who worked for a company that dealt with the distribution of CD's. IIRC, she was unaware that Al wrote originals and struggled to figure out what rock song Al was parodying when she came to the entry for I'll Sue Ya.

You didn't answer my question, though. Why would it just leak out if the label secures it in check?
How old was that last signature? I mean, really?

Someone at the label could do it, someone at the duplicating facility, Al could do it for all we know
