A) The judges would hate it
B) Its a contempory music competition not a parody music competion.
Contempory music is about what sells and the fact is, rock, pop and hip hop sell better than parody. If there wasn't contepory Al wouldn't have anything to parody.
That alone means it wouldn't be a good idea.

A), It's hard to believe that the judges have loved every mentor who's ever been on the show.
B)This wouldn't necessarily have to be parody week, but respecting someone who knows pop music better than just about anybody out there, knows how to make a song 'his,' is extraordinarily talented, knows how to put on a good performance, and could help an aspiring artist find their own take on a song. Last week's mentor was Jamie Foxx, but nobody sang a Jamie Foxx song. Next week, Slash is on the show. Previously, Quentin Tarantino was the 'mentor.' They obviously aren't just looking for mentors whose songs the Idols will perform, but people who know pop music, and can help others improve. In this respect, Al would be outstanding.

That would be completely amazing to see Al on that.
There are good reasons for him being the mentor and vice-versa, though, so it's kind of hard to know what I think, really.
I just think he really should be on Saturday Night Live before he's ever on AI.

Re: The big Get Al On "American Idol" and "Glee" topic
If you want to get Al onto "American Idol" or "Glee" send an email to [email protected]
All it takes is a minute or two to send along a message that says something like "I think it would be so great if 'White & Nerdy' or 'Perform This Way' was used on Glee" or "Al was an original King of the Geeks in High School and followed his dreams even though he was made fun of and doing one of his songs on Glee would be a great fit" or "I think American Idol could have a lot of fun with Weird Al night." It doesn't have to be exactly those words, but a just suggestion.
And if you think there is a specific character or performer that would be a good match for a specific song you should mention that, or if one of Al's songs would advance or feed into a plot line on "Glee" mention that too.
I think it would make great television and I'm sure you all can come up with some good examples of ways utilizing Al or his catalog would be great television for one or both of those shows.
