I haven't found anything leaked yet. I think it hasn't because Al is making sure this time who get's his material and who doesn't. When his albums have come out like SOl copies were distributed everywhere before the release date. Al has the song in his studio until the 7th which is a big difference than previous years. Remember in previous years Al has had most of the songs recorded and waits a year or so before release date which means it's more likely to be leaked. Like when he thought he had permission for Your Pitiful and then had to delay the release to make white and nerdy.Big Spoon @ October 04, 2008 03:25 pm wrote: Is anyone else surprised that nothing about the single has been leaked yet? You can call me GEAH (GreenEggs&Ham) or Kat...I'll respond to either one.

Let's keep up the speculation here.
Since my last "veepstakes"-esque line has been lost to the depths of the abyss, I'll write up a new one complete with my thoughts on each. The list is in order from least to most likely, in my judgment, as to what song Al will be parodying.
5) P!nk - "So What": I have to admit, when I first heard Pink in 2000 I never thought I would still be thinking about her in any capacity eight years later. Let alone, that I would be considering if her latest hit would be the subject of a new Weird Al parody. And it seems, however, that she may be more popular than ever. That being said, this song is far from the universal, overplayed hit that Al says he is looking for in his targets. I had never heard the song before her performance at the VMAs and haven't heard it since either. Considering the song was only number one for a week, it remains at the number five position. (Previous ranking: N/A)
4) Katy Perry - "I Kissed A Girl": Here's a song that absolutely deserves the Weird Al treatment. Katy Perry burst onto the scene with this hit, and it is clear that she's probably not around to stay given the gimmicky nature of the song. I think this is a song well-known and well-liked enough for Al to give it some attention. Keeping it at number four, however, is that has not been at the top of any charts for months. Considering the nature of this release, one must assume the hit would have to be at the top of the charts VERY recently in order to have the effect Al is looking for with his first iTunes-only rapid turnaround release. What kind of precedent would he be setting to go to all this trouble just to parody a song that is already four months old? That being said, this song is PRIME subject matter for his next polka. (Previous ranking: 3)
3) Rihanna - "Disturbia": A recent hit that spent some time on top of the charts. One thing working in Disturbia's advantage is the fact that Al included "Pon de Replay" on the last polka, which has often proven to be the equivalent of a farm team for Al's later parodies. In addition, Al mentioned that he had been working on (or at least tossing about) a parody of SOS called "IRS" for Straight Outta Lynwood. Clearly Al sees Rihanna's style as potential parody fodder, and she is definitely a star on the rise, as each hit seems to be bigger than the last. Someone on this board (I forget who, but I guess with this weird time warp thing it really doesn't matter) suggested a title of "Suburbia" which definitely has a lot of potential, too. Of the three female-fronted acts on the Line (a genre, I mean gender, Al seems to prefer to avoid when possible), Rihanna is the most likely. (Previous ranking: 4)
2) Coldplay - "Viva La Vida": While I personally think this song would make the best subject for an Al parody, and had predicted to friends and family several months ago that I thought it would be a prime candidate for his next album, its absence on the Billboard 100 keeps this song from topping the list. The fact that it continues to top the Adult Contemporary chart, however, keeps the song in prime contention. It is foreseeable that Al is trying to throw us off a bit by hinting at the fact that it is number one in the country without ever mentioning specifically what that means. If the song ends up being the choice, remember which WOWAY members (Patti and I) were hot on its tracks despite all the naysayers. (Previous ranking: 1)
1) T.I. - "Whatever You Like": This song is a huge hit on Top 40 radio as well as Hip-Hop stations. It is not only number one on the Hot 100, but also on Top Rap Tracks, Top R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, and Top Digital Sales (hint, hint). Listening to the song, one could easily hear how a parody could come of it. This would also solve the conundrum Al might (theoretically) be facing of how to release his fourth straight hip-hop parody without being forced to do it as a lead-off single. In addition, T.I. has been a major player in the hop-hop world for several years now and has been entirely overlooked by Al's musical oeuvre. (Previous ranking: 2)
I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts on this list, and would love even more to see your own lists. Does anyone think it might be a song that wasn't on my Top 5?

Ironically, several weeks ago, my brother's friend mentioned that he'd heard a new Weird Al song called "I Kissed a Goat". Since I hadn't heard of that song, and figured that I would have if it were upcoiming (as I knew there wasn't any album news), I checked the official Weird Al site to see if Al recorded such a song. He didn't. But I had trouble convincing my brother's friend that there are other artists who do parodies who get miscredited as songs by "Weird Al" Yankovic.

I Kissed a Girl - NO! Too many parodies of this exist already, it's already a novelty song, and Katy Perry pisses me off.
Whatever You Like - I'm soooo sick of Al parodying rap songs lately. (Yes, I lump Usher and R. Kelly in that category.) You know, Al... other genres exist. There are some rock songs out there that are pretty damn popular. Also, he hasn't touched the emo scene at all. Seriously. There are so many better targets than all these rap songs.
I really hope the parody is of that Pink song, because it's not only something different, but it's actually a pretty cool song.

Considering the speed with which he has put this project together, there is every possibility that he could be releasing a large number of parodies in coming months
If one bombs.. sowhat? he can do something else and then cherry pick just the best ones for the album when it finally arrives. I think we are going to get a lot more music from Al this way than we ever had before and that can only be a good thing right?
My money is on Whatever You Like at the moment; although I guess the Pink song or Coldplay would be aesthetically more pleasing to me personally.. but hey!.. It's Al.. I'm gonna love it anyway
