Just so you know, buying the $150 tickets doesn't get you a pass to see Al. That "laminate" is strictly a souvenir. The $150 buys you a good seat, a souvenir, and a very high quality lithographed poster signed by Al.
"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.

What is so special about these concerts. It is funny, endearing and such a joy to be with other Al fans who know all the words and are willing to sing them at the top of their lungs, just like my family.

What a touching sentiment!

Forgive me ,
I read one posting and I thought it was refering to selling Meadowbrook but rereading it, it sounds like they are talking about selling video tapes.
Sorry

My family and I went to this concert, too. We just got back from a mini vacation in Gilford; it is a beautiful area of New Hampshire.

We had a great time at the concert. We had front row seats, so we had a great view of Al. We got soaked with water from Smells Like Nirvana (got the cup, too), and we were able to grab some Yankobucks.

I compared the setlist, song for song (and video for video), from the show we saw last August in Beverly, MA. The ONLY difference was the absence of Headline News. There were no stormtroopers in Beverly, MA last year, so it was fun to see them dancing along during The Saga Begins.

For those of you keeping track, he sang Bob and there was no public meet and greet. The buses were located inside of a guarded fenced-in area. Only people with sticker passes were allowed to enter.

I was lucky enough to have passes, so my family and I finally got to meet Al and the band after this concert. We decided to talk to the other band members first, because we knew Al would be busy for a while. We chatted for quite a while with Jim, and then with Bermuda. I noticed Ruben nearby, but when I went to find him later, he was gone. My MySpace friend, Kathy, was there and she took a bunch of pictures of us with the guys. We talked to Steve Jay briefly, and then Bermuda told us that the line to meet Al was almost finished. We ran over, met Al, got autographs and a photo. AL seemed REALLY tired.

We picked up our things and walked back to our hotel. While we were walking down the road out of the venue, the tour bus drove past us and honked. We could see Bermuda and Ruben sitting up front. The guys had told us they were driving straight to Michigan that night.

The next morning, while having breakfast at the hotel, we chatted with several families who had attended the concert. All of them seemed to have a great time. One lady told me about a guy in the front row who knew all the words to Albuquerque and had seen 53 Weird Al concerts. I figured that must be Alinite27 !

My husband, children, and I all had a blast! My children both got autographs from Al, Jim, Bermuda, and Steve. My daughter had the back of her "Yankovic '08" shirt signed, and my son had a Yankobuck signed. I had Jim sign my "Kimo Style" CD insert, and I had Al sign my "Weird Al Yankovic" CD insert. I forgot to ask Bermuda or Steve to sign anything for me.

I got a couple of nice concert photos. I'll post them one of these days...

Sounds like you had an unbelievable night! Could you tell us how you got the backstage passes?

How great that you had front row seats! Congrats on getting the SLN cup! I'm glad you enjoyed the show, and that you got to talk to Al and the guys.

1 more day, and it'll be my turn!

:whoot:
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

I think Kristine summed it up nicely recently in the Public Meet & Greet topic:

"You've never been able to purchase them. You get them from the venue, promoter, or the band/crew members themselves. It's one of those "who you know" things. You can't just go and ask the venue or a band/crew member- you have to have an existing relationship with someone."

So, all I can say is I got my passes from someone who has "connections."

I called the venue to see if I could get a couple of passes for my friends, but they said they had absolutely no access to any of those passes. The "VIP" seats at Meadowbrook do NOT come with passes, nor did the $150 VIP package from Artist Arena.

Cindyandthecats, perhaps your friend was able to get passes from an usher because there were some extra unused passes that were given to the venue on the day of the concert?

EDIT: I just posted my photos from this concert over in the Got Any Good Concert Photos? topic. Take a look!

Honey, you have one heck of a memory if you can remember me out of all the folks you must have seen that night.

What row were you in. Were you behind me? And if so how did you see me? I looked back after Al was done with me and saw him gyrating by a gal in C section. Is that where you were?

I read your earlier posts and that you came up from RI. If you have to drive that far the next time, (God let there be a next time), let me know and you can stay with us. All us fans have to stick together.

I'll bet my face lit up, when he stared into my eyes my heart almost stopped!
Most excellent!

My husband took some pics of the moment but has to develope them. Film... he is a purist.

Thanks for your post.

I sat in the row directly in front of the girl he girated to. red hair and a SOL style facial hair combo.

And thank you for your offer : ). My folks didn't mind the ride one bit, however. It was described as a "typical day trip to Six Flags" but a half hour longer.
