Yep, that's a disadvantage of online forums - you usually don't know what people look like from a screen name, and you can go for years without seeing a pic.
On the other boards I read at Arstechnica I have met tons and tons of people, and sometimes we've had to resort to talking on a cell phone while walking around in the same area and looking for someone else on a cell phone, because neither person has any idea what the other looks like. Sometimes not even gender.

Do I get any extra Crazy Fan PointsElvis @ Jun 28 2008, 03:52 PM wrote: OE, that's some dedication to pull off a last minute road trip like that! At least you saw part of the concert.

The question about whether Crazy Fan Points SHOULD be collected can be disclssed later...

Having now completely missed a concert I was ticketed for (last year Sat. at the OC Fair) and arrived gruesomely late for a concert, I can report that arriving gruesomely late is infinitely better than not arriving at all.
Al kind of stared in my direction when the lights went up on the audience during the arm-waving in Amish Paradise. Maybe he was surprised to see a previously empty 3rd row seat suddenly filled, or maybe it was just a general-direction stare, but I gave him a little wave just in case.

During Albuquerque the space between the stage and the first row kind of filled up with little 'uns, which I thought was cute: what's not to like about a whole lot of people under the age of nine or so, all thrilled down to their socks to be so close to Weird Al?
I didn't spot the bus parking after the show and I wasn't really expecting a passless M&G anyway, since Konocti is such a long ways away, so I went to the hotel and left a message for Nancy. She called back and asked to be picked up at the venue, where she told me that there was indeed a M&G in progress. By the time I got there, Al had finished and boarded the bus, but I had a chance to chat with Jim and Steve for a few minutes. That too was a considerable consolation for missing the first more-than-half of the concert. And anyway, I should be there in plenty of time for Ventura if my ol' faithful Corolla continues its ol' faithfulness.
At the moment I'm still in Las Vegas. Maybe I'll go to the Star Trek Experience so I can feel Al's next performance of "You'e Pitiful" on a deep visceral level.

"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.

Aww, that's adorable!! I normally don't see many small children at Al shows. And if I do, all they do is stare at the people screaming and singing, looking like they don't know what the heck is going on.Orthography Enthusiast @ Jun 28 2008, 06:45 PM wrote: During Albuquerque the space between the stage and the first row kind of filled up with little 'uns, which I thought was cute: what's not to like about a whole lot of people under the age of nine or so, all thrilled down to their socks to be so close to Weird Al?

Well, the Albuquerque(Concert Version) is actually longer than the regular album 11 minutes. Which I think Dingo was pointing out...since that version also has the extra ad-libs.
Does anyone remember what the Headline News verse in the medley about...I can certainly understand if he didn't change any order or different songs around...but if he kept that, I can't see it still being Paris Hilton...that'd be outdated.
Anyway, glad to hear everyone had a great time...even if OE did miss the first-half.
5 days til Al chasing again....
