From an Avril Lavigne fansite in Spain (translation mine): QUOTE

A group called Weird A1 has taken the Complicated song to convert it into a kind of parody called A Complicated Song. It will appear on the group's new album titled Poodle Hat that will be out on May 20.

Whaaaat? They've gone and turned a vegan into a steak sauce! :nervous:

It almost makes me wish that this "Weird A1" group had decided to do the "Ketchup Song."

Almost.

And the Alaskan road in AlMusic3 (Yankovich Rd). That was a fun one....those nutty Alaskans!
You have quickly thought up such matchless phrase?

Yankovic vs. Yankovich

Post by aintafraidofy3k »

After all these years, why do some people say Yankovich? I take it personally, as an insult to Al. They even did it on King Of The Hill.

I wonder if Al will guest star on King of the Hill. It might be cool, prove to Bobby that Al is still alive.

I'm just rambling here so, I'll stop talking now.

It's one of the great mysteries of life...

From Ask Al:
Derek "Inquiring" Miner of Largo, Florida asks: I keep hearing people mispronounce your name as "Yanko-VICH." Why do you think they do this, and doesn't it bother you?

My paternal grandparents actually pronounced their name YONK-o-vich, so I guess there’s some history behind it. But it’s still one of my little pet peeves.

Yankovic/Yankovich is a Yugoslavian name. I believe the "c" may actually be pronounced "ch" in the original Serbo-Croatian. Al mentioned in one of the Ask Al's that his grandparents pronounced the name "Yonkovich" but Al's father changed the spelling/pronounciation to sound more "American."

When people pronounce/spell it incorrectly, it also annoys me because it means they don't care enough to pay attention. Eastern European names seem to intimidate people.

Misspelling it doesn't annoy me as much as mispronouncing it. After all, a "ch" can make a "c" sound. But when it's mispronounced, I agree with El, it just shows the person speaking doesn't care enough to pay attention.

No kidding. *looks at her last name and thinks about how many times it gets mispronounced* Wait, too many, I actually answer to them.

Though, I think that the King of the Hill people probably mispronounced Al's last name on purpose.
