I don't even think there's enough ground to draw a comparison in this argument.

Completly different here.

(And before anyone asks, I'm a huge fan of the D. )
You have quickly thought up such matchless phrase?

The number of mainstream, SUCCESSFUL comedy artists is so small that the comparisons are bound to happen. If there were more artists who actually did parody music, then maybe the connection between Al and Black wouldn't be as relevant to anybody.

BTW, one big difference between Al and Jack Black: Al's comedy has endured for over two decades. Meanwhile, most people are already sick of Jack Black. I absolutely loved him in "Shallow Hal," and even moreso in "School of Rock," one of my all time favorite movies. But since then, I've kinda gotten sick of him. To the point where I find most of his newer work to be...well, annoying.

I remember when Jeff Foxworthy first got big. There were comparisions then too. But who the heck even cares about Foxworthy anymore?

Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for an artist with a fraction of Al's talent to step up to the plate, develop their skills, and be ready to take over the legacy when Al eventually retires. Probably won't ever happen, though.
I'm a big fan of Jeff Foxworthy! Not as big as I am of Al but all the Blue Collar Comedy Tour movies and such are great. I don't see how you would compare Al and Jeff together though, even though Al did direct one of Jeff Foxworthy's videos. But back on topic,I don't care for Tenacious D with all the nonstop language. But I am a fan of Jack Black and I thought Nacho Libre was good. You just have to be more of fan of Napoleon Dynamite to like Nacho Libre I think. :P

Napolean Dynamite > Nacho Libre. And big time, I might add.

Well, Weird Al's music contains just as much "nonstop language." Well, except for the few and far between instrumental solos and of course "Fun Zone." But besides that, it's pretty much ALL nonstop language.

Does anyone else get the feeling that this Tenacious D review is alluding to that other article?

Key phrase at the end:

And that's why Weird Al Yankovic is funnier than Tenacious D: Because he reworks other people's good songs, rather than sing his own mediocre ones.
Ignoring the misconception, this is the only Al reference in the entire article, and it seems like a rather abrupt comparison to just introduce at the very end. It looks very much like a subtle rebuttal to the "Badger Herald" article.

Yeah, while the D are certainly not Al, they're great. I haven't gotten a chance to see the movie yet, but I want to. The soundtrack, however, is not as good as their previous album. For better versions of some of the songs, check out the live Tenacious D concert from last January I have posted at my blog: http://the3penguins.blogspot.com.

Yeah, that definitely seems like a rebuttal to the other article. Al's kind of metioned out of the blue at the end of the article, so it seems like it must be disagreeing with the other article.
Oh by the way, I've cracked the code.
