Thanks for sharing, Adrian :)
Despite not really being in the public eye as much, since then, he has not let up on the music industry and continues to release albums here and there.
:P

I think, more than anything, they're pointing out how Al's lyrics always need to be heard to be their funniest.
And even better when he's seen as well as heard ;)

Weird Al Yankovic Is Pitiful
accordion playing sonic humorist takes a stab at James Blunt.
by Spence D.
June 12, 2006 - You've undoubtedly heard James Blunt's hit song "You're Beautiful." You know the one with the lilting melody about the "angel" he encounters on the subway, which is then propelled by a hauntingly catchy mock falsetto chorus.

Like any song that crosses over to the global pop culture consciousness, it automatically became sonic fodder for the lord/god of musical satire, Weird Al Yankovic.

That's right, Weird Al has delivered "You're Pitiful," his seering jab at the heart strings of the less fortunate.

True to form, Al has made the song available for free download. You can snag it from his official site, www.weirdal.com.

Or you can snatch it from us, since we took the time to download it for you.

...Does that mean to imply that Al releases every song for free download?

either that, or that every time he releases an album, he releases a song for free download....

I just found out that Australian radio station Triple M mentioned YP, they didn't play it, they just told everyone to download it :D

This thread makes me so happy, because Al's song is garnering so much attention!

Go, Al!

YP may prove to be a great promotional tool for the upcoming album, so maybe this wouldn't be a horrible idea. :F

(of course, the selfish part of me just wants more freebies in the future >:) )

I think it's kind of ironic (and downright sad) how just one song is getting so much attention, yet if the song was released as a non-single on the album (yes, I know; I'm being hypothetical), there probably won't be nearly this much attention towards Al if he released the album with the song not highlighted.

...I hope that was intelligible...

Yes, I actually agree to a certain extent, but I think if it's Weird Al publicity, it's good publicity, regardless of the song. Why would people want it that much on CD if they already have it?

I meant if it wasn't offered for download and was released like all other album tracks, I doubt it'd get so much publicity.

I agree about the "it's good publicity" well and truly, however. Yay for Al!!!

I'm gonna disagree. It's a very funny song and (hypothetically) would get more attention, faster, 'cause Al would be everywhere doing interviews, performing and promoting the new album it was on (after June 27 - hehe). (Because so many people know the original and it was so successful. One article said in 25 countries, IIRC?)

As it is, I'll agree with Dumb n00b for Al that it's still good publicity and it's very cool that he shared it. Great song :)
