I don't think my awareness of him goes back quite that far. I didn't live where Dr. D was being played, or I'm sure I would have listened regularly. But I do remember Another One Rides The Bus. Though I couldn't tell you how. I don't know if I knew it from hearing it on radio? I also saw Al on the Tom Snyder show. My strongest memory of that show was the velvet pants, the bare feet (when did he stop performing barefooted?) and the guy doing the trained seal thing with the horn and the accordion case. So when I saw the video for Eat It, I knew who Weird Al was. I just had no idea he was the same guy on Tom Snyder. Or what he looked like.

I really don't know why it took me so many years to "discover" him. I always liked him.

My fandom was on and off, up until '99. Then, I became die-hard. Oh, and Al stopped performing barefooted as soon as the last show of the TWS tour was over. I used to watch the Tomorrow show, but I didn't see Al's performance. I'm glad I can watch it now, thanks to the UVC!

Oh. Well, that doesn't count to what I was asking. His nekkid toes were just part of the costume.

And I never watched the Tomorrow show regularly. I guess I was just lucky that was one of the nights I watched. I guess insomnia has some perks.

I know what you meant. Maybe that was a one and only live performance, barefoot, without wearing a costume. Because I've seen bootlegs of early tours, and no barefootedness then. Maybe Jon knows?

1. I am irratated sometimes when he takes a valid question and turns it into a joke. I am also greatly amused when he takes a dumb question and turns it into a joke.

That's about it, and it's no big deal really. He's such a great guy that there's not much I can say.

I concur that Eat It was a great song at the time and still makes me chuckle sometimes, especially the video. I was just at the age where I was rebelling against everything my older sister stood for, she listened to pop music and so I hated it. That's where Eat It hit the scene. I thought it was great making fun of Michael Jackson. It was awesome. Then there was Like a Surgeon. Too cool.

I still rebel against everything that is "cool".

I like when Al answers a badly-worded question with a joke, too. It's so funny! I do agree that I'd like him to answer some questions more seriously sometimes, though.

Ah, yes, I guess you're right. I, unfortunately, will never be able to see Al in CA.

At least, it is highly unlikely.

I've never been to CA either; don't feel too bad.

There's a gripe about Al- We need more east coast tour dates!
