Chris, the guy who won S9, said in an interview that it was easier to play Twila, Eliza, Julie, etc. than it was to play Jeff Probst. He asks tough questions because he knows who's on the chopping block and encourages those at the top of the pecking order to come together and take out the ones in power. He has a lot of influence on the way people play, no doubt about it.

The offer for mewrio to have a stand-in was given for the sole reason that he is on the other side of the globe. Giving him that chance is by no means an ADVANTAGE. He has come into the game with a very distinct disadvantage just because of where he lives. I think it's perfectly fair to allow him to have a stand-in for LIVE challenges, like this one. Especially since this one required very little, if any, skill. It's evening out the disadvantage that he has to give him a more reasonable shot at actually winning the game. Otherwise, he has no hope, whatsoever. For everyone else, they may have things that come up, but it's not the same as being in another hemisphere and being literally incapable of playing in the challenges. Think about it this way: Would it be fair to continue the game through the mid-winter break? No. For the same reason, it isn't fair to not let mewrio participate in a challenge just because he lives in Australia. Personally, I'd rather he get his sleep so he can do well in school than for him to wake up at 2 AM to come play this game.
But even with all that rationale, the option wasn't just handed to mewrio. I asked if anyone objected to it, and nobody said they did. In fact, both Melissa and Jackie replied that they DIDN'T have a problem with it. If ANYONE had posted that they objected to it, I would have accepted that and it would have been a moot point. But nobody did. So, we proceeded with the challenge. But when you objected in the middle of the challenge, I was left with no choice.
We couldn't proceed with the challenge WITH a stand-in for mewrio, because you objected to it. And we couldn't proceed WITHOUT a stand-in, because mewrio had already assumed he'd have a stand-in, so he wouldn't have come to the challenge. So, I had to call it off. I feel that was the best thing to do. I'm sorry that it turned ugly. I believe that mewrio should have been allowed to have a stand-in, but since I opened it up to you all and asked if anyone objected, I had to respect that.
What I don't appreciate, however, is the comments like, "Well, I could have just played poker instead of coming here." I feel that was uncalled for. It's not the same thing as mewrio's situation, and I feel it's unfair to compare the two. A better approach would have been to just say that you objected. I would have accepted that and the whole thing would have been over like that. Sarcastic comments don't help in situtations like that. I did my best to ignore such comments and respond diplomatically. If I too failed to do so, then I apologize for my part in adding to the tense situation.
In regards to the feeling like I'm "picking on you and Jackie" or singling you out, it's simply untrue. I honestly and truely respect how you're playing - the both of you. But you've watched Survivor enough to know that one of Jeff Probst's trademarks is that he doesn't just sit back like an unbiased host and watch it all happen. He exposes things that players would rather he not. He makes people accountable for their actions. And like anth said, he attempts to rally the underdogs. This isn't "Wheel of Fortune," it's "Survivor."
Nothing in any of those commentaries should be taken personally. Just like the Tribal Voting, it's all part of the game. I respect both you and Jackie as people and in the game. But it's the host's job to stir things up a bit. That's the best part of the job! >:)
I sincerely hope you don't think I'm singling you out or anything like that.
