The above post confused me until I read this thread from the beginning. Looks like the initial reaction was that people weren't liking it much after the first listen. My, how times have changed! -- it's a highlight of the live act now.

Song explanation -- Al is playing the role of a smarmy guy trying to pick up women.

I thought this song was supposed to be a style parody of Prince, since he won't let Al do an actual parody?

I for one never understood why people didn't like this song in the beginning. I loved it from the first time I heard it.

I think it's supposed to be a style parody of a Midnite Vultures-era Beck doing a style parody of Prince...or something.
