Re: Perform This Way (New song on YouTube)
I'm excited to know that we'll be getting a music video that actually features Al embodying the artist being parodied this time around. Kind of like old-school Al mimicking Michael Jackson in a fat suit, doing Madonna's dance moves, sporting Kurt Cobain's mop-top, etc. It's been awhile since we've seen that kind of music video. Closest is maybe the "Pentiums" video, but that wasn't the lead parody. (I guess we got a taste of Al as Chamillionaire in W&N, but Chammy isn't exactly a larger-than-life celeb like all of the above, and Al's nerd character was the centerpiece of the video.) PTW promises to be very, very good.

Well there was technically CraigsList, but that don't exactly count either.
Should be interesting to see Lady Al

You have quickly thought up such matchless phrase?

Good point. But no, I'm talking about a big(ger) budgeted, anything goes music video for the lead parody of a new album. The Morrison video was cool and all, but pretty bare-bones.the Dingo wrote:Well there was technically CraigsList, but that don't exactly count either.

I assume Suzanne's tweet was simply a joke..
Either way, upon more listening to the song, I definitely like it. Whether it ranks among my faves is yet to be seen. I share some of Helen's cynicism regarding this whole thing. I am still not sure Gaga didn't just simply change her mind.. Either way, glad it worked out for Al.

I'm the same way. I LOVE Al's work, but have rarely laughed when I heard it, I just chuckled n my mind. PTW legitimately made me laugh and it brightened my day a lot.NNY273000 wrote:Edit: Should chime in on the song, too, right now.
I loved it. It's not a masterpiece but boy did it deliver for me. With the first three times I listened the lines "wrap my small intestines 'round my neck and set fire to myself on stage" got me each time. I'll be honest and say that I've always adored Al's work as an artist but I rarely laugh out loud. To use his terminology: I often ATHBDNDPR*. For that line to repeatedly make me laugh is a great change of pace for me from the usual gushing of how great the song sounds.
*Appreciate the humor but displayed no discernible physical reaction.

Once again, Al has come up with a parody which takes a song that sucks and turns it into gold.
When he says "I'm Avatar" is he referencing James Cameron's Avatar or Avatar the Last Airbender?
