Another reason why I don't see the "Al drummed it up on his own" angle happening is I can't imagine Al dragging his family into it to get sympathy (That's something only politicians do :P )

The Al/Gaga team up is much more likely if there's a conspiracy afoot

Nothing new just E online just now posted the story....
Some questionable (likely lazy) reporting in that article. It implies that there was Internet excitement over Al's plans to release a Gaga parody prior to the rejection news. In fact, Al had said he WASN'T going to parody Gaga (at least not "Born This Way"), and none of us knew his intentions until yesterday's blog post. Further, the article says that Al offered the song as a free download. Unless I missed it, he only posted a YouTube link.

Also the slam about people following the story ("that must be at least ONE of you, right?") was pretty weak. Although obviously the reporter himself wasn't following it very closely. . .

Yeah it's a slam, but to be fair, it ain't exactly like Al ever gives us reasons to look there most of the time

Well plenty of people *were* expecting a Gaga parody. Al knew that. Plenty of articles were written where people took our boy's statement that Gaga was being considered as a candidate for a parody and ran with it.

Also it felt less like a slam and more like conveying we're just not likely to be reading their stuff. If it's true, then it's true. Otherwise I was comfortable with what I was reading.

The free download statement is a bit of a gray area for the article writer, too. A youtube upload is treated the same as a free legal .mp3 for plenty of people and it helps when Al said he was working on getting the .mp3 up on the mothership.

That's true...the article does specify that no one is reading "Al's Blog", not necessarily that no one is following the story. Although considering that Al's blog post is what Drudge Report, HuffPo, and other news sites linked to, I'm sure there were a lot more pairs of eyeballs on it yesterday than just. . .one.

Context was a bit vague but I saw it as "our readers aren't usually Al's readers" which is fine. It wasn't like "I'm sure Al's entire fanbase is here reading this...its nice to hear from BOTH of you" or something more obvious and snarky.

Edit: Should chime in on the song, too, right now.
I loved it. It's not a masterpiece but boy did it deliver for me. With the first three times I listened the lines "wrap my small intestines 'round my neck and set fire to myself on stage" got me each time. I'll be honest and say that I've always adored Al's work as an artist but I rarely laugh out loud. To use his terminology: I often ATHBDNDPR*. For that line to repeatedly make me laugh is a great change of pace for me from the usual gushing of how great the song sounds.

*Appreciate the humor but displayed no discernible physical reaction.

Suzanne just tweeted that Al asked her to go pick up a human-sized egg. I am guessing this will be for the video, but it could also be something really funny for the tour. The egg could theoretically be the equivalent of the Segway for W&N on this tour.

On the contrary, Al's wound up on E quite a few times. Probably not recently, but I'm sure he can claim to have been on/covered more than musicians or comedians who are more famous than he is.

E doesn't need to do Music Television or Video Hits One's jobs (Not that they're doing that, but that's another story). The music industry has always been seen as the red headed stepchild of the entertainment industry. The very A-List are the only ones E gives regular attention to.

And if you're E, what's the better story for your fans? Poor Al being victimized by Lady Gaga's management, or that jerk Al Yankovic picking on poor, innocent St. Gaga? At least the story had balance to it
