I just noticed that Al has a wallet chain in "Smells Like Nirvana"

Not that it's Earth-shattering news or anything

Huh, just noticed in the UHF video in the first Talking Heads sequence with the dancing Als in back, at the very end his glasses fall off

And do you suppose that "Richard Chemel, management" has stopped kicking himself yet for failing to see what Weird Al would become?

Saw this- replying a few years late- but sadly, I am not kicking myself-
Al, with the guidance of Jay Levey has reached heights- I couldn't possibly have taken him too.

I just moved on in my life- and was successful in the video, and internet commerce industry- and now own an Ebay Store in Chatsworth, CA.

I believe Al had talent- that is why I took him on. Not as a Novelty act in any sense.

In fact another story I recalled today- was during my stint as "manager" I got a call from Jerry Weintraub's office- they wanted to speak with me about Al's original songs- not the parody's because there was international interest in the publishing rights. So Bruce Sperling- ( he worked with Frank Day (Jeff Wald's office) and I went to Beverly Hills, and met with one of Weintraubs people-and they were very interested in publishing for International.
Nothing ever came of it- because it was right before our parting- but Al's original songs- had a special quality- if I recall- hooks, melodies, lyrics. Just another story I recall.

I came to this board- because I thought it was time- to provide info on my end.
I have the highest respect for Al, Dr. D. and Jay Levey. He has reached new heights for his type of "act". But I believe his original songs are a goldmine- always have believed it.!!! Give a listen to some of the real early stuff- non- parody.

Thanks for coming back, and replying again. I'm glad to hear you say such nice things about Al, Jay Levey and Dr. Demento. I love Al's original songs. I've heard a few of the early ones, and they do have a certain charm. Al certainly does have talent, and I'm also very glad he's done so well.

I am very proud of my short association with Al- and never attempted to capitalize on it over the years. To this day I never commented on my relationship with Al- until I saw the comment about " kicking myself" a couple months ago- from this board.
I had time May 6 to put some thoughts down in print- and I enjoy sharing the stories. I seek nothing from Al or anyone, as it is just part of my career history.

As a writer I always believed "if you can't say something nice- then don't say it"

In the Bedrock Anthem video near the end when Al sings "Where's Wilma? Anybody seen her?" and Steve shakes his head, he could be shaking it because he's playing some "mean licks," or because he's kind of answering the question, saying that he doesn't know where Wilma is; either way it works
