That's somewhat what I figured, but it's nice to have confirmation of that from Dr. D. That worries me just a tad. Now Al has to find a new lead parody, which can be a pretty difficult task. We've seen some pretty long delays due to lack of a lead parody in the past. Let's hope another big song comes out soon.Waffleking @ Jun 11 2006, 01:56 AM wrote: I don't know if this has been discussed elsewhere but according to Dr. Demento, "You're Pitiful" was going to be the lead single off the new album! This is from an online chat the other day:
Dr. Demento : He told me that he'd just put too much time and effort and money into it to just let it die, so after he learned that he could not use the song on his next album, he decided to let it out any way he could.
Dr. Demento : Yes. It was going to be the lead track on the next album.
Dr. Demento : I'm not sure exactly what went down. Obviously Al thought he had approval on it at some point, or he would not have recorded it.

Frankly I think it will be a turn out to be an effective marketing ploy. People who have not followed Al in recent years can just stop by the site and listen to a new song for free.
I hope the folks in the Hollywood CoC and the Rock Hall of Fame get a chance to stop by. Nothing sells an artist like free music.

I just had a random thought so here goes some speculation: awhile back during some of the media coverage to get money raised for Al to get his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Jay Levey was quoted in one of the articles. His comment went something like "Al is not available for comment as he is in Europe". This was around the time of the album delay so do you think it was possible that Al actually went to Europe to deal with the record company situation? Is James Blunt's record company in the UK? Not trying to stalk Al or watch his every move but was curious if this was all connected somehow.
Does anyone else remember Jay's comment about Al not being in the country at the moment?

Yeah, I remember that. I don't know if James Blunt's record company is over here or not. I'd always assumed that they would sort this stuff out over the phone or something, but I'm basing that on absolutely nothing, so maybe you're right!

I do not know obviously if that is why Al was in Europe and was just wondering if there was a slim chance that Al and his backers thought since Al is such a personable and nice guy they thought him meeting some of those record company execs in person might help. Phone calls would be the most obvious way to handle that kind of situation it would seem. An in person visit by Al might have been a move to see if they could persuade Blunt's people to be more cooperative. That would also help to show Al's intent is never negative towards a song or artist he is doing a parody on and what a cool sense of humor he really has. Of course I am basing this on nothing as well just an idea I had. Who knows if we will ever know any of the behind the scenes stuff since it is not really our business but I know I trust Al and his managers to do their best.

No, that's fine. I posted it over in Fan Creativity. It hasn't been in this topic yet.
