The rare items section of the Mothership will tell you how to tell which version is which, even unopened. The key is the white strip that's on the top of the CD while it's wrapped. That's how I knew. The WalMart I went to actually had both versions at the same time.
Besides, the older one is going in my collection. It's the one signed by Jim, Steve and Ruben. Hopefully someday also by Al and Bermuda.

Having TUVC go gold made me think of this topic.
So I ran some numbers.
PH might be really close to gold.
If you trust aintafraidofy3k's math, as of 7/11, 179,559 copies had been sold. That averages out to about 25,000 per week. So we'll use that as our starting point for calculations.
Also if you trust my research, estimate that after the initial week, sales dropped off between 1,000 and 3,000 per week. We'll say 1,000 to make the math easy and give PH the benefit of doubt.
Since about 21 weeks have passed since 7/11, that's 25,000 + 24,000 + 23,000 + ... + 5,000 = 315,000. Add that to 180,000 already sold, that's 494,000 copies.
Projecting forward, next week's sales would be 4,000 and and the following week, 3,000. That's enough to put it over the top, so there would only be two more weeks until PH goes gold.
Of course all this is assuming sales drop off is a linear function, which I'm sure they don't. Also, the numbers are very aggressive. Only losing 1,000 sales per week might be true for the first couple weeks, but I doubt that holds after the initial buzz wears off. I really don't believe PH is that close to gold, but the speculation was fun.

That's some good math, there Dave.
I myself was thinking of PH's sales today, and I think it's a good bet to say that the album is at least near and hopefully over 400K. There's a question we should've asked Bermuda in the chat....don't know if he'd have the answer, but I'm sure he'd have some kind of good info.

You have quickly thought up such matchless phrase?
