Not all artists out there write their own material (well, that can be said for more than just singers lol). There are a ton out there (especially in the pop genre) that pay someone to write for them, or their record pays someone. If they are the one paying the songwriter, usually they will get a say in how it should go/ lyrics/ etc, but if its the label paying- the artist just crosses their fingers (such as Do I Make You Proud).

All I ask is that when everybody realizes that I was right and JibJab is doing DO I CREEP YOU OUT, I get added to the Spoiler Timeline. Isn't that why we all do this? For the glory?

I think many people don't like the original (DIMYP) -- AI haters, too overplayed, too schmaltzy, etc. -- and this rubs off on them. I didn't really care for the Eminem parody from the last ALbum, just because of the M&M himself.MikeyMan2627 @ Oct 7 2006, 02:23 AM wrote:Why do people hate this song?
It's one of my favorite on the album!
I'm with you, I really like the song. I sing along in my truck; I probably really creep people out then!
Holy crap, I've got a laser cannon!

Here are the reasons I don't really like this song:
1) It seems fairly obvious that it was a last second addition to the record and as such Al didn't have as much time with it as he did with all of the other parodies. It's a pretty safe guess that Al got permission for the Chamillionaire parody and put a ridiculous amount of time into perfecting that song and then wrote this one almost as an afterthought.
2) The original song received almost zero radio play, doesn't even have a music video, and was only released on iTunes. The only people that know the original song are those who watch American Idol. While I admit that is a fairly large group of people, it certainly doesn't have as wide an appeal as nearly any other song popular this spring/summer. We've all seen what happens when Al parodies a song that no one's heard of.
3) The premise itself is pretty much a play on the title of the original. I definitely think that any of the ideas that Al has been throwing around lately like "I Had A Bad Date" or "IRS" would have more potential for comedy than this song idea. Plus, Al has covered the stalking thing at least a few times already and I think it's obvious that he wasn't going to be able to top Melanie.
4) Why did Al cut out a whole verse? I totally understand why he would cut down White & Nerdy because it is so wordy and the song really functions as a two verse number. But this song reaches the climax just after the first verse! I think there were at least a few more jokes he could have included which would've let him do the entire song. Just when you're getting into it, the song is basically over.
All this being said, please understand that I love the new album, but this song is definitely the worst track and I'm just explaining why I feel that way. I still don't skip over the song and I think that what Al did come up with is very funny as always, but I don't think it lives up to the very high bar that Al set for himself with, well, every other track on this album.
