Just to clarify (I don't think I was all that clear on this point), I wasn't rude to the opening act (and I really didn't notice anyone behaving rudely during either show I went to) ... I laughed and had a decent time both times.

But in the back of my mind, I kept thinking, "Al, I want Al, come on Al, this has to be over soon so I can see Al."

And I agree with Patti ... hats off to the people who open for Al.

I'd rather Al didn't have opening acts at all. The ones I've seen, have for the most part been bad (Jimmy Fallon is the one notable exception).

Al did not have an opening act in Minneapolis last year -- and it was great!

I don't mind the comedians too much, but sometimes, the folks in charge of hiring them don't think about what kind of crowd attends an Al show. We've all heard about the comedian who was doing inapproriate material, and was asked to leave the stage. *thankfully, he wasn't at any show I attended* That's the one flaw with hiring a comedian. I know of a fan who wants to open for Al. He's a juggler, and a very good one. I think that'd be better than a comedian.

I agree with Akrovak. I think some fans just get really impatient and they can't wait to see Al. I've only been to two shows with opening acts. I can't remember one of them. The other one was in Akron last year. He was pretty bad, but I don't think the fans were really rude to him. The only thing I can think of is when his microphone stopped working for a minute and people started cheering. That was definitely somewhat rude.

The comedian at the Greek in LA was very good so she didn't get any guff as far as I could tell.

My worst memory of heckling was the very first Al conert I went to in Boise in the 80's sometime. Dr Demento was opening by playing demented songs like he does in front of the OC fair venue only in this case he was on stage. There were hecklers right in the front on his side of the stage. I was so embarrased and mad! I thought, "great, now Al will think Idaho is full of ....." well,.. words not permitted on this forum.

I hope that hasn't happened since.

Well the opening act at the Mann two years ago was not cool. He did a lot of adult humo, which is not appropriate for a lot of the audience. But the other acts that I have seen open for Al have all been good. The first time I saw him, Big Daddy Graham opened for him, he's really funny. And he has a few albums of songs too. Then when I saw him in 2000 it was Rachel Romanowski and she was good. I forget who I saw at the Keswick last year but he was good. And AC didna have an opener. But its nice to see an opener just because I feel you get more for your money.

:oo They heckled the Good Doctor? Obviously not Al fans. Why, that's... that's really, really, bad.

I remember the opening comedian from OC three years ago, he was funny. I liked him. I liked the guy at Chicago. Kansas City was pretty good, I liked his Furby joke. Iowa City..none. Lincoln...none. My first concert...I remember the lady just had lame jokes to the point that everyone was bored and some people yelled out that she sucked. It wasn't that she was vulgar, her jokes were just...bad.

Let's see. At the Puyallup show two years ago, we had a cowgirl who made lots of fem jokes.(Radio station WPMS, only comes in once a month!!) Last year was two EXTREME jugglers. Made the wait more worthwhile when I heard the intro!!

Hey they were good! I've seen them before at the Rose Garden (Portland Trail Blazers arena) and they were very good then too!
