i watched UHF and Compleat AL when i was small, and i have heard lots of songs by him ( mostly the parodies) through the years and liked it a lot, but it wasn´t really until i heard White and Nerdy that i really became a big fan, started buying all his albums, searching the internet for all things Al, bought The Werid Al Show on DVD, etc.
Holy cow, i´m white & nerdy !

Another thread I never responded to WAY back when...

My older brother got me hooked on Al as early as I can remember. I don't remember the first few ALbums first-hand (I was born in '80), but my brother had the tapes. I remember borrowing the tapes as early as 6 & 7. Then he graduated in '90 & left home... leaving his tapes behind. :F |)

So I picked up collecting tapes around OTDE & also got ALapalooza, the for BHD I got the CD (no more tapes from there) & I also finished collecting all the past ALbums on CD. So I have all re-issues up to, but not, OTDE (I have "Bite Me"). My brother was also the reason I have the Peter & The Wolf tape. I've just continued the tradition.

And, yes, my brother is still an AL fan, just a more casual one. We traded places, I think...

(If this shows up twice... sorry! I got the CPU usage message when I hit "Add reply"....)

my boyfriend actually got me into listening to al. i listened to the song "attack of the radioactive hamsters from a planet near mars " and i was immediatly hooked. after that i bought all of his cds, read nearly every interview, i've watched pretty much everything about al on youtube, and i went to his concert. its funny, i think i ended up becoming more obsessed with al then my boyfriend would have liked...lol.

AL ROCKS!
everbody's sayin' that he sure sounds funny but it's still billy joel to me!

My friends in middle school got me into it. I rode the bus with them and they'd sing and have CDs and players with them. Ironically, most of the songs they listened to and got me hooked on were actually those common "Not-Al" songs. Mixed in, though, were some authentic ones and I started making connections between his styles and realizing that this stuff didn't seem to be him. Eventually, I did my homework and figured out what was Al, and what wasn't. I figured out how much I loved his stuff and found which CDs i needed to buy. I now have every CD, and as I added to my collection I devoured the new CDs. Listened over and over and over. One of my best friends that got me hooked goes to the concerts with me. But I have surpassed in fandom all the "fans" that got me hooked. lol
English doesn't just borrow from other languages, it mugs them on the street and checks their pockets for loose grammar.

See? another instance where hooliganism and misinformation can bring in another Al fan.

Glad to have you, Pickle.

Well, I guess you can say I'd been a casual fan my whole life. I liked his songs and videos and thought he was funny. But I guess it wasn't until I heard White and Nerdy and I really started listening to a lot of his older stuff that I thought "Hmmm.....I think I need to buy some Weird Al cds." So I guess that's how it started. But seeing him live a couple months ago definitely sealed the deal. I don't think I'll ever be the same. :P
Concerts I've attended:

6/9/07
7/17/10
9/23/11
8/18/15
