*sigh*
A word?
We can't use a certain word?
That's stupid.
I'm sorry Al, but that's stupid.
You don't own that word.
That's like saying "Ok, you can do a parody of Lose Yourself, but you can't make a video for that song"
Seriously, that's stupid.
Silence will fall.

Stop that Stephen. There are all sorts of legal issues involved in this you can have no knowledge of without appropriate knowledge. So better not to make that sort of remark I think.

Yeah, that comment didn't sit well with me, either. Jay's been really nice and helpful about stuff like that as far as anything involving Al. He gave me permission to sell my chocolate Al suckers at Alcon III, because the money went to charity, and not into my pocket.

On a more up note, if I thought they'd survive being shipped to CA, I'd love to send some chocolate Al suckers out to this convention. At AlCon III, the proceeds went to Comic Relief. I think it'd be nice to do something for them again, but that's up to Vikki.
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

In Stephen's defense (mark your calendars, this doesn't happen much), while the adjective "weird" has been associated with Al for about 30 years he doesn't own it any more than FOX News owns any right to the words "fair" and "balanced"

I know Jay's a good guy and his job is to protect Al's interests, but I'd love to know his reasoning behind this request.
This means something. This is important.

Yes, it's true that Al doesn't own the word "weird", but calling Jay's and I guess Al's decision stupid seemed a bit harsh.

I'll try for a good spin: Jay (and Al) may be trying to not further marginalize Al and his fans by using the word. He certainly isn't, and we mostly aren't, "weirdos." But that's the way it sounds.
"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.

You could be on to something, Helen. Maybe Vikki can tell us more. Anyway, I'm sure we can come up with something that meets with thier approval.

All I meant was that there are probably a lot of trade names already registered with the word "weird" in. It could be a legal minefield

S-O-D-A soda?

lol.

I respect their decision. Let's not argue about this, ok?

I'm restating my idea:

WAYCon, A "Weird Al" Fan Convention
(I know the word is in there, but not in the convention name, it's in the subtitle as his name.)
