I can say no more, except, that I love this forum. I can always count on someone to correct me when I'm right.

He could very well have been shooting footage that will be incorporated into the animation for all we know.

That's true.

DICYO certainly would be low-budget...but not really what I was hoping for, I don't know about anyone else... :(

I was cruising around reading Hicks fans reactions to the song and saw this snippet in an interview with him:

First he’s heard of it. He laughs “That’s funny, that’s cool - I love that.” So score one for Weird Al. Plus, Google Alert? Another example of Taylor’s “Ear to the ground” attitude isn’t it?
The artcle was from the week the album came out... guess Al got permission from the American Idol people (they do basically control his career, don't they?) and they never bothered to pass on the info to Taylor...

 That doesn't really surprise me. These suit types aren't very reliable. I'm glad to hear that Taylor approves of it, though.

Either he sought permission from the show or the songwriters (or probably very likely both entities). The show plus composers Tracy Ackerman and the Absolute team all received special thanks right after all the original artists were listed.

Ya, Taylor didn't write the song. He gets permission from the label (Simon Cowell's label, Cowell also produces AI) and the writer.

I could have sworn that the top 2 or so from AI had to write their own song, and that DIMYP way Taylor's song...

It could be that Taylor gave permission for the song, but didn't HEAR the song itself until it came out on the album...

I think Taylor Hicks is cool enough to where he wouldn't reject an Al parody...

No, the members of the Top 2 don't write their own songs. Songs are specially written for them to sing.
