I'm not going to say no, but its not a whole "Al Convention With Al There." That's not the purpose of it, I mean, if he shows up, awesome, but its more for the fans to meet each other and have a good time.

The original Woodstock poster had the head of a guitar with a dove perched on it. I'm having visions of an accordion and a hamster.....

Just yesterday my husband suggested tailoring that design, too, if we settled on "Weirdstock", and I immediately thought of an accordion with a dove, but the hamster thing is even better!
Oh, and yes, this event is happening with the assumption that Al will not be there. It is just for Al fans and fans of comedy music in general, which is the central theme.

yeah... the conventions that are built around an appearance by the star they celebrate can do that because they PAY the star to show up, whereas Al's relationship with his fans (including the Al-Cons) can be characterized more as random acts of graciousness. And it would be illogical, not to say ungrateful in the extreme, to think that we could specify whether or when Al should do something random.

There will be different events throughout the day that will involve fan participation in one way or another. What exactly those will be is still under discussion, but I believe I have settled on two things for sure: karaoke (competition or exhibition, not sure yet) and fan art gallery which will include a table set up where people can make some art.

It's a 50/50 chance with me at the moment, but if things work out I'll be there! Looks like I have a goal for the summer eh?

Well, everyone, we're going to have to leave the word "weird" out of the name of the con, which puts the kibosh on Weirdstock, among others. So, start focusing on the other ideas for a name. Jay Levey doesn't like the ideas that use the word "weird", and when he told me this, he said "we", which naturally makes me assume he means Al feels the same way about it.
So, even though they aren't involved officially and I don't absolutely have to follow that suggestion, I want to. I'm sure we all want to.
Sorry.

I'm so glad you're keeping such close contact with Jay through all of this- I really want them to approve of the whole thing- name and everything else. We wouldn't want to go putting on a fan convention that saddens/angers the people the event is based on.
