Okay, I'm up, and that means its review time! Hooray!
I got there about 6:35ish and I went to will call and asked if I could pick up and my passes and the lady said that they didn't get them yet because they're from the artist. Okay...so I had to wait out there. Then I saw Albinodwarf, I believe, doing the petition and I had my dad sign it. So we waited some more and at about 7:05 or so, the lady called us over and said that she got a load of passes and we found mine. I held mine because my hands were full and I ran into Diva, so I gave her two Biography DVDs and we chatted some. Then I went to go to my seat to put down the many presents and go get a tour shirt. I already had the hoodie and Homeboy shirt, but I wanted a shirt with some tour dates, so I got the cover shirt.
While going into line I saw Dj's Mom and chatted and then when I was further up in line I saw the first Melissa. We talked some and then I finally got my shirt. While getting it, I saw BS and I ran to get him his DVD. I then sat back and some relaxed in my seat, waiting for Kaffy to get the last DVD I had, since I know I wouldn't see her near by again, and I wanted to make sure she'd get hers. I chatted with my dad some, sang along to the music they were playing, and got everything where it needed to be. Being in the second row was so awesome! I was so close to the stage that it was amazing. In OC, I was SO far back.
Then I heard my name being called and I saw Kaffy, I gave her the DVD and I was happy to meet her. The concert started late because a lot of people came late due to traffic or parking. Then the lights were dimmed some and the music was off. My heart raced and before I knew it, Fun Zone started. We all yelled the ''hey''s and the lights were off. When it ended, Al came out in all of his glory with his accordion playing the Chicken Dance. He broke out into Polkarama and I took so many pictures! Next came Canadian Idiot and Al was really dancing and shaking up there. After that was CBNC and Al got a lot of dance moves in that one too.
My battery was running low and the little sign on my camera was flashing, but then Al played WDTAHTM! I was so happy because I thought Al would pull the same thing that he would only come back to the Greek if he could play a song made entirely of palindromes, but I got the song I missed in concert! Sweet! I got pictures of him reading and my dad, who loves this song, cracked up even more. I quickly changed my batteries during the videos. Next was IAATP and since I was close, Al posed for my camera a couple of times and pointed to the people around me about their computers. I loved when he knocked the baseball cap off the late comer. It was hilarious! The next song was Your Pitiful, and my dad loved the whole reading of the card. The shirt order was: Jacket, sparkly gold shirt, rib cage bird shirt, Atlantic Records Sucks shirt, Spongebob, and then the famous tutu with the boxers and fishnets. My dad also laughed at the Atlantic Records Sucks shirt.
The song after was WBUL. I got really good pictures of this one since the stairs were right by me and I could get at the end part where he was singing to someone for the whole high pitched screaming part and I got the last facial expression. Al glanced over to me but didn't approach me because I could tell he likes to steer away from the younger girls, especially if their dad is right next to them. They had screens for the people on back and I got a picture off the screen on the KABLAM, because I couldn't miss that photo moment. It was a lot of fun actually being close to this one because last time I was so far away that I couldn't even see Al singing to the people.
Next came the medley. I don't remember all of them from my camera because some had the same clothes on and stuff, but my dad laughed in DICYO and he couldn't stop laughing in I'm in Love With the Skipper. My dad loved the whole Black Dog bit in TITDT and seeing Eat It live, even if it was just part of it. ISY was next and like I said before, a lot better close up. When the Yankobucks fell The went to the right and on the stage, but the lady next to be handed me one and I crawled under the seat for one.
After that came TSB and stormtroopers with Darth Vader were present! I was upset because I went to the first OC show that didn't have any stormtroopers, but they came back! Yes! Al held the "he's" in "He's a ghost" for about 12 seconds or so and he sang to the stormtroopers and Darth Vader at times. Then Yoda came and I got some rocking pictures there, as well as some from the Yoda Chant. I sang along to it, knowing most of it and my dad cracked up when he said, "Everybody!" Al got down to somebody in the audience and had him sing it. He was off and not that good and Al said something to the extent of, "Terrific," sarcastically of course.
The song after that was SLN and it was terrific. The cheerleaders were great, especially the one on the right and I got hit with the Nirvana water! The lady who got up was really annoying. Al didn't smile or laugh or seem to enjoy it getting hit by water at all. I'm glad security got her. The next song was AP which was nice to see more details in too. We all waved our arms and Al loved the audience doing it. Next came WAN! My pictures for this are kinda blurry since Al was moving around a lot, but they are still good, and I still crack up watching the Donny video!
Fat was next and it was fantastic! The ho part was great and so was the jumping part. Al played a good fat man up there. Al said goodnight and people were yelling "Encore," and within a couple of minutes, Al came back saying that he couldn't leave until he sang this one last song. He then broke out into Cellphones and everyone waved their cell phones in the air. He then broke out into Albuquerque! Al said many more donuts, most of them berry related, even Halle Berry and it was so much fun. I saw Suzanne in the corner taking video as well as Nina who was a bit tired. Al finished and waved goodbye while applause kept going. He then went off stage and people began to leave.
While the encore wasn't extended, like Al said in the Kevin and Bean interview on Friday, he totally gave 100%, unlike the other concerts were he gives about 95%. We got the high pitched screams to the max in WBUL and great screams and yells in Albuquerque that you didn't get anywhere else.
While walking, I saw a pile of Yankobucks so I grabbed them, along with one off the stage. I got 13 at this show! Awesome! I went to the bathroom with my dad, since I had to go pretty much the whole concert after drinking half a can of soda, and then I caught up with more WOWAYers. Kaffy gave me her gifts to give to Al, then I was off to the line to go into the Hospitality room. Al mentioned on the Kevin and Bean radio interview Friday that he has 250 guests backstage, and boy, did I know it. We were in line for a while because they couldn't just throw everyone in there. We finally got in and there were cheeses, fruits, chips, coffee, and even a bar! But I expected a lot since its Los Angeles and Al's friends were bound to be there.
We went outside and down the stairs where Al was signing stuff and there was no line, which I hated. People were piled in a bunch trying to make their way to Al but I went slowly with my dad, not wanting to rush at all or anything since we had a lot of gifts. We saw Suzanne and Nina, who is the cutest! She's so smart and sweet, just like both of her parents.
Seth Green was there and the girl in front of me got a picture of him and I was going to ask for one too, but he went away to talk with some more people, and I didn't want to make a big deal about it. I also saw Jim, but he was far away. So, I got closer to Al and I was thinking of what to say. What questions to ask for people and comments, and before I knew it, Al faced me and said, "Hi." I smiled and introduced myself saying my name and that I was Mary O'Connor's (My aunt that got me the passes who knows Al, but I'll get into that with my Myspace review) niece and Al said, "Oh yeah, right." I told him happy birthday in three days and he thanked me.
I then told him, that the members of the Weird Al forum got him gifts. He said, "Oh, wow, thank you!" He then, because it was so crowded and there was not enough time to open them or anything, told me to place it off in the corner by the security guard who said she would watch them. I then went back to Al, asked him to sign one of my Yankobucks and something else which I can't say without ruining a surprise for someone. I then got a picture with and and I had my arm kind of around him and I felt his curls, which are oh-so soft and our heads were touching.
Then I said, "Thanks Al!" and I put out my arms and we hugged! I couldn't bring myself to ask for a hug so I had to just do it. He gave me a nice, big Yankohug and he then said, "Bye" and I waved to him as my dad and I made my way out.
We went out and I ran into the WOWAYers again smiling and in my still going AIH. We all talked about how it should get easier next time you meet him, but it never does. Then we hiked back to the car and took our leave. I was tired and my throat was a little sore from screaming and singing along, but it was a fantastic concert! I'll never forget meeting Al and I can't wait to meet him again.
I would like to apologize, and I'll put this in the gift thread too, for not expecting that Al couldn't open your gifts or anything. I couldn't even ask questions or say anything for anyone, it was so crowded and unorganized. I'm seeing my aunt today, so maybe I can ask to pass a message along to him thanking him for all he does and that we hope he enjoys the birthday gifts. But, again, I'm sorry. I'm just glad that I was able to get them to him and that I finally met my idol. It was an absolute honor, and blast!
Looking at the picture with Al and I now, I can tell how similar my and Al's hair really are. Its amazing! I'll upload my pictures soon, since there are over 300. My dad loved the interviews because he hadn't seen them before, and he just loved everything. I am so glad I went with him instead of my mom who would have hated it. And that's a wrap on a wonderful Al evening.
